Gil Hoffman is an Israeli-American journalist and political correspondent who serves as executive director of Honest Reporting. [1] He was previously chief political correspondent for the Jerusalem Post . [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Hoffman grew up outside of Chicago in Lincolnwood, Illinois. [5] He attended high school at Ida Crown Jewish Academy and graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. [6] [7] He previously worked for the Miami Herald and the Arizona Republic. [8] He made Aliyah at age 22 in 1999. [3] After immigrating to Israel, Hoffman served in an artillery unit with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and later served as a spokesperson for the IDF reserves. [3]

Career

Hoffman became executive director of Honest Reporting in June of 2022. [9] He worked for the Jerusalem Post from 1998 - 2022 and served as their long-time chief political correspondent where he interviewed prime ministers, generals, government ministers and other prominent politicians and covered 10 Knesset elections. [4] [10] Hoffman has noted in the past it is important to him to remain objective in speaking about Israel due to his position as chief political correspondent. [11]

Hoffman hosted the podcast Inside Israel Today on The Land of Israel Network from 2017 - 2020. [12] He hosted a podcast on Voice of Israel from 2014 - 2015. [13] [14]

He makes regular appearances on CNN, TRT World, and Al-Jazeera along with local Israeli television programs. [15] [16] [17] [18] He is a frequent lecturer on Israel, having spoken in every major English-speaking country in the world and all 50 U.S. states. [19] [5] Hoffman also teaches a course on journalism at the College of Management Academic Studies. [20]

In 2022 Hoffman was named one of the top 100 people positively influencing Jewish life. [21]

Personal life

According to Jerusalem Press Club, Hoffman currently resides in Israel. He is married and has three children. [22]

HonestReporting is a non-governmental organization that "monitors the media for bias against Israel" and has been described by several news outlets as a "pro-Israel media watchdog group". The organization is a United States 501(c)3 registered charity headquartered in New York City, with its editorial staff based in Jerusalem.

Early legislative elections were held in Israel on 9 April 2019 to elect the 120 members of the 21st Knesset. Elections had been due in November 2019, but were brought forward following a dispute between members of the current government over a bill on national service for the ultra-Orthodox population, as well as impending corruption charges against incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Legislative elections were held in Israel on 23 March 2021 to elect the 120 members of the 24th Knesset. It was the fourth Knesset election in two years, amidst the continued political deadlock following the previous three elections in April 2019, September 2019 and 2020. Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett announced that they had formed a rotation government on 2 June 2021, which was approved on 13 June 2021.

Yaacov Behrman is an American rabbi, the Director of Operation Survival, a project of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (N.C.F.J.E), and a liaison for Chabad Headquarters. Behrman is also the founder of the Jewish Future Alliance, and a member of Community Board 9. In 2021, Mayor Eric Adams named Behrman to his mayoral transition team.
