Gina Fiandaca is an American government official who served as secretary of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation from January to September 2023.
Fiandaca was born in October,1964 and raised in East Boston,Massachusetts. [1] She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Suffolk University and a Master of Business Administration from Boston University. [2]
From 2006 to 2014,Fiandaca served as director of Boston's Office of the Parking Clerk. From 2015 to 2019,she served as commissioner of the Boston Department of Transportation. [3] In 2019,she became assistant city manager of Austin,Texas. [4] She was appointed by governor Maura Healey to serve as secretary of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation in January 2023. [5] In August 2023 Fiandaca announced she would be resigning from the position effective September 11th for undisclosed reasons,making her the shortest serving appointed secretary. [6] [7]
Fiandaca's sister,Cheryl Fiandaca,was married to William Bratton. [8] In May 2023 the MBTA awarded a $900,000 no-bid contract to Teneo,where Bratton works as an executive chairman. [9]
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is the public agency responsible for operating most public transportation services in Greater Boston,Massachusetts. The MBTA transit network includes the MBTA subway with three metro lines,two light rail lines,and a five-line bus rapid transit system;MBTA bus local and express service;the twelve-line MBTA Commuter Rail system,and several ferry routes. JFK/UMass station is a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) intermodal transfer station,located adjacent to the Columbia Point area of Dorchester,Boston,Massachusetts. It is served by the rapid transit Red Line;the Greenbush Line,Kingston/Plymouth Line,and Middleborough/Lakeville Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail system,and three MBTA bus routes. The station is named for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and the University of Massachusetts Boston,both located nearby on Columbia Point.
Hynes Convention Center station is an underground light rail station on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line. It is located at the intersection of Newbury Street and Massachusetts Avenue near the western end of the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston,Massachusetts. The station is named for the Hynes Convention Center,which is located about 700 feet (210 m) to the east along Boylston Street. It has two side platforms serving the two tracks of the Boylston Street subway,which are used by the Green Line B branch,C branch,and D branch. The main entrance to the station from Massachusetts Avenue leads to a fare lobby under the 360 Newbury Street building.
Sullivan Square station is a rapid transit station on the MBTA subway Orange Line,located adjacent to Sullivan Square in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston,Massachusetts. It is a major transfer point for MBTA bus service,with 13 routes using a two-level busway. The station has two island platforms serving the two active Orange Line tracks plus an unused third track. The Haverhill Line and Newburyport/Rockport Line pass through the station on separate tracks but do not stop.
The MBTA boat or MBTA ferry system is a public boat service providing water transportation in Boston Harbor. It is operated by Boston Harbor Cruises (BHC) under contract to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). In 2022,the system had a ridership of 797,700,or about 6,000 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023. The system consists of three routes that terminate in downtown Boston. F1 service runs from Rowes Wharf to Hewitt's Cove in Hingham. F2H service runs from Long Wharf to Hewitt's Cove,with some trips stopping at Logan Airport,Pemberton Point in Hull,and/or some of the Boston Harbor Islands. F4 service runs in the inner harbor between Long Wharf and the Charlestown Navy Yard. A seasonal pilot service also operates between Long Wharf and East Boston. Two additional seasonal routes,not funded by the MBTA but included on some MBTA documents,run from Boston to Salem and Winthrop.
Savin Hill station is a rapid transit station in Boston,Massachusetts. It serves the Ashmont branch of the MBTA's Red Line. It is located at 121 Savin Hill Avenue adjacent to Sydney Street in the Savin Hill area of the Dorchester neighborhood. Opened in 1845 as a commuter rail station,Savin Hill was converted to rapid transit in 1927 and rebuilt in 2004–05 for accessibility. Averaging 2,199 daily boardings by a FY 2019 count,Savin Hill is the least-used station on the Red Line.
North Quincy station is an MBTA subway Red Line station in Quincy,Massachusetts. It is located in North Quincy,off Hancock Street. A major park-and-ride stop,it has over 1200 parking spaces for commuters. The station is fully accessible.

The Green Line Extension (GLX) was a construction project to extend the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line light rail system northwest into Somerville and Medford,two inner suburbs of Boston,Massachusetts. The project opened in two phases in 2022 at a total cost of $2.28 billion. Total ridership on the 4.3-mile (6.9 km) extension is estimated to reach 45,000 one-way trips per day in 2030.
East Somerville station is a light rail station on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line located in southeastern Somerville,Massachusetts. The accessible station has a single island platform serving the two tracks of the Medford Branch. It opened on December 12,2022,as part of the Green Line Extension (GLX),which added two northern branches to the Green Line,and is served by the E branch.
Union Square station is a light rail station on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Green Line located in the Union Square neighborhood of southeastern Somerville,Massachusetts. The accessible terminal station has a single island platform serving the two tracks of the Union Square Branch,which parallels the Fitchburg Line. It opened on March 21,2022,as part of the Green Line Extension (GLX),which added two northern branches to the Green Line.

A member of the Democratic Party,she served as Massachusetts Attorney General from 2015 to 2023 and was elected governor in 2022,defeating the Republican nominee,former state representative Geoff Diehl.

Republican former state representative Geoff Diehl,Democratic state attorney general Maura Healey,and Libertarian Kevin Reed sought to succeed incumbent governor Charlie Baker,who did not seek re-election after two terms. The race was one of six Republican-held governorships up for election in 2022 in a state carried by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and the only race in which the incumbent was retiring despite being eligible for re-election.
Stephanie Pollack is an American government official who served as the deputy administrator of the Federal Highway Administration. Pollack also served as acting administrator pending Senate confirmation of administrator nominee Shailen Bhatt. From 2015 to 2021 Pollack served as the secretary and CEO of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Pollack previously worked for the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF),the Greater Boston Institute,BlueWave Strategies,and Northeastern University before starting her position at MassDOT. Pollack was the first female secretary of transportation in Massachusetts.
The 2022 Massachusetts Attorney General election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the next attorney general of Massachusetts. Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Maura Healey was eligible to seek a third term,but instead announced she would run for governor.
East-West Rail is a proposed passenger rail project that would provide new service between Boston and Western Massachusetts,with stops including Worcester,Springfield,Pittsfield,and Albany. An infill station in Palmer is planned as well. The 171-mile (275 km) route between Boston and Albany would use the former mainline of the Boston and Albany Railroad,which is now owned by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority and CSX Transportation.
