Given Katuta Mwelwa (born 6 March 1969 in Chiengi) is a Zambian politician and member of parliament for Chiengi. She was first elected to parliament in 2016. [1] [2] [3]
Katuta was born in Nchelenje district on 6 March 1969. She was given a Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration from the London Graduate School of the Commonwealth University in 2022. She is also pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration with Chalimbana University,Zambia. [4]
Katuta was elected as the only Member of Parliament under Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) in 2016 after beating the ruling Patriotic Front. In 2021,she was elected as the only female Independent Member of Parliament in a male-dominated political space after beating the ruling party and the main opposition party at the time. [5]
During her parliamentary work,she has served on various high-level committees such as the Committee on Cabinet Affairs,the Committee on Transport and Communication,Executive Committee Member of Caucus on Children’s Rights,Zambia Women Parliamentary Caucus,Zambia-China Friendship Association,and Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities. She has also chaired the Select Committee appointed to scrutinize the 2016 constitution and submit to Parliament. She also served as the Chair for the Select Committee appointed by the Speaker of the Zambian Parliament to scrutinize the appointment of judges. She won the African Women Summit award in 2023. [6]
Katuta is married to Lawrence Mwelwa,a former university vice cancellor at Chreso University,a university based in Lusaka,Zambia. [7]

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is a Namibian politician who is the third and current vice president of Namibia since February 2024. She previously served as the deputy-prime minister of Namibia from 2015 to 2024. The current SWAPO vice president,she has retained her position,and is set to become the party's first female presidential candidate in November 2024. She has also been serving as Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since December 2012. From March 2010 to December 2012,she was Minister of Environment and Tourism.
