Nikola Janakiev Karev was a Macedonian Bulgarian revolutionary in Ottoman-ruled Macedonia. He was born in Kırşova and died in the village of Rayçani (Rajčani), both today in North Macedonia. Karev was a local leader of what later became known as the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO). He was also a teacher at the Bulgarian school system in his native area, and a member of the Bulgarian Workers' Social Democratic Party. Today he is still considered a hero in Bulgaria and in North Macedonia.

Eternal derby, also known as the Macedonia derby, is the name given to matches between the two most popular clubs from North Macedonia, the Skopje-based FK Vardar and Bitola-based FK Pelister, supported by Komiti and Čkembari respectively, with fans at times infamously engaging in hooliganism during the derby.

The COVID-19 pandemic in North Macedonia is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached North Macedonia in February 2020. The initial contagion in the country was mainly connected with the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy as there are circa 70,000 residents of Italy from North Macedonia and resulted in many people returning to North Macedonia, bringing the virus with them. As of 9 July, over 7,000 cases have been confirmed in the country, due to its second wave caused by family reunions during Eid al-Fitr among the Muslim minority and the overall re-opening of the country to organize the parliamentary elections.
The 2020–21 Macedonian Football Cup is the 29th season of North Macedonia's football knockout competition. This edition did not have a defending champions due to the interruption of the previous edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
