GoTV (stylized as gotv) is a 24-hour music and animation channel based in Vienna, Austria. The channel launched on October 1, 2002. The channel targets audiences in Austria, but is also widely available throughout Europe.

Background

Strategy

The channel features music from established and underground local artists, as well as music particularly from Europe and North America. The channel is marketed through the German language. The channel features a broad music policy playing a mix of music from pop to rock, hip hop to dance, heavy metal to alternative, and everything in between. Though the channel is primarily marketed towards Austrian TV viewers, the channel is widely available throughout Europe on Astra satellite. The channel also offers viewers the latest news, events guide, competitions, music, and film promos.

On-air identity

The channel has used the same on-air identity since its launch in 2003 with some changes along the way. On-air idents were designed by Zoe Irvine. [1] The channels presenter an animated logo designed by Axel Stockburger. [2] Idents change depending on the emotions of the Go TV logo. [3]

ORF (broadcaster) Austrian public broadcaster

Österreichischer Rundfunk is an Austrian national public service broadcaster. Funded from a combination of television licence fee revenue and limited on-air advertising, ORF is the dominant player in the Austrian broadcast media. Austria was the last country in continental Europe after Albania to allow nationwide private television broadcasting, although commercial TV channels from neighbouring Germany have been present in Austria on pay-TV and via terrestrial overspill since the 1980s.

ARTE is a European free-to-air television network that promotes cultural programming. It is made up of three separate companies: the Strasbourg-based European Economic Interest Grouping ARTE GEIE, plus two member companies acting as editorial and programme production centres, ARTE France in Paris (France) and ARTE Deutschland in Baden-Baden (Germany). As an international joint venture, its programmes focuses to audiences in both countries. Due to this, the channel features two audio tracks and two subtitle tracks, each in French and German.

Eurosport is a pan-European television sports network, owned and operated by Discovery, Inc. Discovery took a 20 per cent minority interest share in December 2012, and became the majority shareholder in the Eurosport venture with TF1 in January 2014, taking a 51 per cent share of the company. On 22 July 2015 Discovery agreed to acquire TF1's remaining 49 per cent stake in the venture.

ITV3 British free-to-air television channel

ITV3 is a British free-to-air television channel owned by ITV Digital Channels, a division of ITV plc. The channel was launched on 1 November 2004, replacing Granada Plus. ITV3 is the sixth largest UK television channel by audience share and the largest after the five main terrestrial services, the position which was previously held by its sister station ITV2. The channel is known for UK dramas, including sequential reruns of Agatha Christie's Poirot, Classic Coronation Street, Classic Emmerdale, Heartbeat and Inspector Morse, amongst others.

VIVA was a German free-to-air music television channel, first broadcast on 1 December 1993. The channel was intended to compete against MTV Europe and was the first German-language music TV channel, while MTV was only broadcast in English until the introduction of MTV Germany in 1997. It was also supposed to focus more on German music and pop culture while MTV only broadcast anglophone music by artists mostly from North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.

ITV4 is a British free-to-air television channel which was launched on 1 November 2005. It is owned by ITV Digital Channels, a division of ITV plc, and is part of the ITV network. The channel has a male-orientated line-up, including sport, police shows, Bond films and US comedies and dramas, as well as classic ITV action series of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

MTV (European TV channel) Pan-European pay TV network

MTV is a pan-European pay television network launched on 1 August 1987. Initially, the channel served all regions within Europe being one of the very few channels that targeted the entire European continent. Today, the channel only serves a selection of European countries as ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA began to regionalise its network in 1997.

More4 British free-to-air television channel

ViacomCBS Networks Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia (EMEAA) is a subsidiary of ViacomCBS. The unit launched as MTV Networks Europe (MTVNE) in 1987 based in Amsterdam and London.
