The first Goan to have played for India, representing Goa, is Menino Figuereido, who represented India on a goodwill tour of Russia in 1963. This tour is not considered an official tour and some say the first Goan to have represented India thus becomes Visitacao Lobo in 1970.[ citation needed ]

Long before 19 December 1961, the day Portuguese colonial rule ended in Goa, Goans had made a mark in Indian football. Many represented India by playing for Bombay and shining at the domestic level, thus earning international caps.

Brahmanand Sagoon Kamat Sankhwalkar is an Indian former footballer and a captain of the Indian team from 1983 to 1986, who played as a goalkeeper. Considered one of India's best goalkeepers, he had 25-year playing career. He played for Panvel Sports Club, Salgaocar, Churchill Brothers, Anderson Mariners at the club level, that included 17 years with Salgaocar, and for Goa state team in the Santosh Trophy. Playing for Goa, he led the team to two consecutive wins at the Santosh Trophy; in 1983 and 1984. Having maintained a clean sheet of 576 minutes in the 1984 tournament, he holds the Indian record.

Roman Catholic Brahmin is a caste among the Goan, Bombay East Indian and Mangalorean Catholics who are descendants of Konkani Brahmin converts to the Latin Church, in parts of the Konkan region that were annexed into the Portuguese East Indies, with the capital (metropole) at Velha Goa, while Bombay was the largest territory (province) of Portuguese India. Visitacao Lobo was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker. He had played one match for the national team of India in 1970 as well as club football for Sesa and Salgaocar. He also represented Goa in the Santosh Trophy as captain. He is also known for being the first ever player from the state of Goa to play for India national team.

The 1983–84 Santosh Trophy was the 40th edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main State competition for football in India. It was held in April 1984 in Madras, Tamil Nadu. Described by The Navhind Times as a leading saxophonist in tiatrs, D'Souza is regarded as one of the stalwarts of the Konkani stage. Throughout his career spanning over five decades, his music has been featured in approximately 3000 tiatrs and 250 audio cassettes.

Joaquim Lourenço "Jack" Rebello is an Indian drummer who works on the Konkani stage. The son of musician and pioneer of khell tiatr, Mastor, he began his career around the same time as his younger brother Luis. A leading drummer of Goa, Rebello spent two decades initially playing for Goan cover bands in Delhi.
