Gocha Lordkipanidze (born 3 February 1964) is a Georgian lawyer,legal scholar and civil servant,who has been a judge of the International Criminal Court since 2021. [1] [2] [3] [4] He served as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Justice of Georgia from 2012 to 2020,and then as the Minister of Justice from 2020 to 2021.
Lordkipanidze was born on 3 February 1964. [5] From 1985 to 1991,he studied law at the Tbilisi State University,graduating with an undergraduate degree and qualified as a lawyer. [1] [5]
Lordkipanidze worked as legal counsel in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia from 1992 to 1999. [5] He undertook further study and graduated from the University of Essex with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in international human rights law in 1995. [1] [5] He joined the Permanent Mission of Georgia to United Nations in 1999,and rose from a counsellor to acting deputy permanent representative. [5] He also studied at Harvard Law School,graduating with a further LLM in international legal studies in 2004. [2] From 2005 to 2009,he was adviser to the prime minister of Georgia in international law and foreign affairs. [6] From 2009 to 2013,he was an adjunct professor at School of International and Public Affairs,Columbia University. [5] In 2012,he was appointed deputy minister of justice in the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. [2] He then served as Minister of Justice from 2020 to 2021. [1] [7]
In December 2020,he was one of six new judges elected to the International Criminal Court (ICC). [3] [8] He was sworn in as an ICC judge on 10 March 2021. [6]
The International Criminal Court is an intergovernmental organization and international tribunal seated in The Hague,Netherlands. It is the first and only permanent international court with jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide,crimes against humanity,war crimes and the crime of aggression. The ICC is distinct from the International Court of Justice,an organ of the United Nations that hears disputes between states.

In 2014,he resigned from the ICC for health reasons but his condition became worse and he died on 21 July 2014.

The International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition or ICCMCC is an annual international moot court competition on international criminal law that is held at The Hague and organised by the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies of Leiden University,The Hague Campus,with the institutional support of the International Criminal Court and International Bar Association. Pace Law School had conceived of the moot as an in-class exercise in 2004,and it was in 2005 that a domestic competition was started. The competition became international the following year,with the finals being held in 2007. With sometimes more than 100 teams from 50 countries taking part annually,the ICCMCC is the world's largest competition on international criminal law and is considered one of the grand slam or major moots. The competition has been held in various languages thus far;in addition to English,there are also Chinese,Spanish,French,and Russian editions of the competition.
Victor P. Tsilonis,also known as Viktor P. Tsilonis,is the CEO and principal legal counsel of NEWLAW law firm,an international jurist,and was Greece's nominee for the 2020 judicial elections of the International Criminal Court,which is based in The Hague,Netherlands. He is also a member of the International Criminal Court Bar Association (ICCBA),currently serving as the Chairman of the ICCBA Professional Standards Advisory Committee,while formerly being ICCBA Vice President for Victims (2021-2022). In 2019-2020 he was also elected as a Vice President for Victims and served simultaneously as the Chairman of the Professional Standards Advisory Committee. The International Criminal Court investigation in Ukraine or the Situation in Ukraine is an ongoing investigation by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) into "any past and present allegations of war crimes,crimes against humanity or genocide committed on any part of the territory of Ukraine by any person" during the period starting "from 21 November 2013 onwards",on an "open-ended basis",covering the Revolution of Dignity,the Russo-Ukrainian War including the 2014 annexation of Crimea by Russia,the war in Donbas and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The ICC prosecutor commenced these investigations on 2 March 2022,after receiving referrals for the situation in Ukraine from 39 ICC State Parties.
