Godavari Biorefineries Ltd., formerly The Godavari Sugar Mills Ltd., [1] [2] is a company in India which operates two sugar refineries and manufactures more than 20 products from renewable resources. [3]

Samir Somaiya is the company's joint managing director, [4] as well as president of the Indian Sugar Mills Association. [5]

Muscovado contains higher levels of various minerals than processed white sugar, and is considered by some to be healthier. Karamshi Jethabhai Somaiya was an Indian educationist who founded educational institutes in Maharashtra state in India. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his service to society in 2000. Sugar has been produced in India since ancient times and then it spread to other parts of the world. Sugarcane is a native of tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. In India, sugarcane is planted thrice a year in October, March and July depending on part of the country. Most of the sugar production in India takes at local Cooperative Sugar mills. After gaining Independence, India made serious plans for overall industrial development of sugar industry.
