The club is a division of Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Inc., the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Rollers play their home games at Carrara Indoor Stadium.

The Queensland Basketball League (QBL) is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. The league is run by Basketball Queensland and has an affiliate development league called the Southern Basketball League (SBL).

The Gold Coast is a coastal city in the Australian state of Queensland, approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the state capital Brisbane and immediately north of the border with New South Wales. With a census-estimated 2016 population of 569,997, the Gold Coast is the sixth-largest city in Australia, making it the largest non-capital city, and Queensland's second-largest city.

Carrara Indoor Stadium is a multi-purpose arena located at Carrara on Queensland's Gold Coast and can accommodate 1,600 fans, with additional seating provided if required which can push total capacity for events such as basketball up to 2,962. The stadium stands adjacent to the 25,000 seat Metricon Stadium and forms part of the Carrara Sports Complex. The stadium has the nickname The Greenhouse as even during winter it would get "Hot and steamy as Hades at times", although that changed with $800,000 worth of improvements in 1996 including new air conditioning.

Club history

Gold Coast basketball began in 1986 with the creation of the Queensland State Basketball League (QSBL), and by 1987, the Cougars men won their first championship. They went on to win their second title a year later, defeating the Townsville Suns in back-to-back grand finals. [1] Following a Gold Coast Cougars team entering the National Basketball League in 1990, the club changed their name to Gold Coast Warriors. In 1994, the QSBL joined the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and became the association's North Conference; Gold Coast was one of 12 teams in the conference's inaugural season. [2] In 1998, the Warriors hosted the CBA National Grand Finals, marking the first time the National Finals were held in Queensland. [3] [4]

Australian Basketball Association

The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) was a semi-professional basketball entity based in Australia. The ABA was Australia's biggest basketball competition for many years. With over 120 teams participating across five leagues and six states, the ABA competition was the vital link between grass roots basketball in Australia and the elite NBL and WNBL leagues. The association provided a high standard of competition for local basketballers from across the country as well as an intense environment for professionals to use in their off seasons.

In 2002, the club went through name changes, with the men's team being renamed the Goannas and the women's team being renamed the Gliders. In 2007, the Goannas reached the QABL Grand Final series, [1] where they were defeated 2–0 by the Cairns Marlins. [5]

In 2011, both teams were rebranded as Gold Coast Rollers. [6]

The 2011 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 26th running of the competition. The Mackay Meteors won the championship in 2011 to claim their first league title.

In 2019, both teams made grand final appearances, with both finishing as runners-up. [7] [8] [9]

Cockburn Cougars is a State Basketball League (SBL) club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's SBL (MSBL) and Women's SBL (WSBL). The club is a division of Cockburn Basketball Association (CBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the City of Cockburn. The Cougars play their home games at Wally Hagan Stadium.

The 2014 Men's Queensland Basketball League season was the 29th running of the competition. The Rockhampton Rockets won the championship in 2014 to claim their fifth league title.

Shaun Bruce is an Australian professional basketball player for the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). He began his NBL career in 2012 as a development player with the Cairns Taipans, before earning a full-time roster spot in 2013. In 2016, he moved south to join the Brisbane Bullets. After half a season with the Adelaide 36ers in 2019, he joined the Kings.
