Good Night, Good Morning is an Indian independent romance film co-written, directed and produced by Sudhish Kamath. The film starring Seema Rahmani, Manu Narayan and Vasanth Santosham, illustrates the "old-world romance that still exists in the modern, technology driven world". [1] [2] Following screenings at several international film festivals, the film saw a theatrical release in India on 20 January 2012.
Good Night, Good Morning was screened at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) 2010, South Asian International Film Festival 2010, Goa Film Alliance-IFFI 2010, Chennai International Film Festival 2010, Habitat Film Festival 2011 and Transilvania International Film Festival 2011 (Cluj, Romania) and Noordelijk Film Festival 2011 (Netherlands). [2] The film was selected for exclusive release through PVR's new banner called Director's Rare. [1]
The film opened to mostly positive reviews. At the Transilvania International Film Festival, Cluj, Romania in June 2011, 86 voters from the audience rated the film 3.97 on 5. Also the film scored a 7.11 on 10 through audience votes at the Noordelijk Film Festival. [3] A critic from Bollyspice.com wrote in her review: "To call Good Night | Good Morning good cinema is understatement; it’s beyond good… It’s original, engrossing and entertaining". [4] "Special mention to Sudhish Kamath’s ‘Good Night | Good Morning’ which is in the ‘Before Sunrise’ space. The script by Kamath and Shilpa Rathnam is mint fresh with some great dialogues," Harneet Singh from Indian Express wrote in her review of the Mumbai Film Festival. [5] Namrata Joshi mentioned Good Night|Good Morning as one of the "standout Indian efforts" in her review of the Mumbai Film Festival, 2011. [6] In a more detailed review in January 2012, she rated it 3 out of 4, citing that it can "reach out to the young, urban, upwardly mobile, but lonely, disconnected souls living anywhere in the world, not just India". [7]
J. Hurtado of Twitch Film noted that the film was "among the most charming and creative Indian independent films". [8] Allen O'Brien of Times of India gave the film 4 ouf of 5. [9] Geeta Padmanabhan of The Hindu wrote: "Here is a movie that gently, amusingly persuades us into seeing the kind of pass our lives have come to. This is who we are, what we do. This is us, our love, our loss". [10] Aseem Chhabra of Ahmedabad Mirror wrote: "There is true independent spirit behind the making of GNGM and for that reason alone it should be supported by fans of good cinema", further adding that the film was "gifted with clever writing and strong, charming performances. One rarely finds this much honesty in Indian films". [11] Sify.com claimed that it was "much like the waffles it mentions—sweet, light, and to be savored immediately". [12] Shakti Salgaokar of Daily News and Analysis gave four stars and wrote: "Good Night Good Morning is a compelling watch. The film engages you emotionally and as the credits roll, it leaves you with a big smile on your face [...] One has to experience this film. Go watch it. Not just because it is a great film, but because it is an outstanding experience that doesn't come by too often out of Indian cinema!" [13] Director Karan Johar rated the film 3.5 out of 5, citing: "Good Morning, Good Night delivers on most accounts what it promises to be -- a cerebral joyride. [14] A critic from CNN-IBN described Good Night Good Morning as a "brilliant film that should be supported for the sake of good cinema". [15]
Gopalaratnam Subramaniam, known professionally as Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter. who predominantly works in Tamil cinema and few Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. Ratnam has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and numerous awards at various film festivals across the world. In 2002, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, acknowledging his contributions to film.
Rajiv Menon is an Indian filmmaker who has worked as a director and cinematographer in several Indian regional film industries. After making his breakthrough as a film cinematographer with Mani Ratnam's drama Bombay (1994), Menon has continued to collaborate with Ratnam on other projects including Guru (2007) and Kadal (2013). He has also directed 2 critically acclaimed Tamil films, Minsara Kanavu (1997) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), winning a Filmfare Award for the latter. After a sabbatical, Menon returned to directing with Sarvam Thaala Mayam.
P. C. Sreeram ISC is an Indian cinematographer and film director who works in Indian films. He is also the president of Qube Cinemas, a digital cinema technology company. He is an alumnus of the Madras Film Institute. Apart from his work as a cinematographer, Sreeram was much appreciated for his directorial venture Kuruthipunal. The film was internationally acclaimed and was submitted by India as its official entry to the Oscars in 1996. Sreeram is known for his association with Bharathan, Mani Ratnam, R Balki, Vikram Kumar, and received critical acclaim for his work in films such as Thevar Magan, Mouna Ragam, Nayakan, Cheeni Kum, Agni Natchathiram, Paa, Geethanjali, Alaipayuthey, I, Pad Man, O Kadhal Kanmani, Thiruda Thiruda, Ishq, and Remo. He has worked as a cinematographer in over 30 films spanning across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi language, besides directing three films and a few TV commercials in Chennai and Mumbai. He is also one of the founding members of Indian Society of Cinematographers (ISC).
PVR INOX Ltd, formerly known as PVR Cinemas,is an Indian multiplex chain based in Gurgaon. It was formed as a result of the merger between PVR Cinemas and INOX Movies. PVR pioneered the multiplex revolution in India by establishing the first multiplex cinema in 1997 at Saket, New Delhi. The film, which is about a group of friends at the crossroads of life, features a set of new actors including Aashil Nair, Cary Edwards, Evam Sunill, Usha Seetharam, Paloma Rao, Praveen Bharatwaj and Roshni Menon. The film premiered at the Chennai International Film Festival on 21 December 2006 and had a limited release in Chennai on 23 February 2007.
Wake Up Sid is a 2009 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar under Dharma Productions, with UTV Motion Pictures as distributor and visual effects contributed by the Prime Focus Group. Shiva is an Indian Tamil actor, comedian, radio jockey, and dialogue writer. He has featured in several Tamil language films and is known as Agila Ulaga Superstar among his fans. Prior to his acting career, Shiva worked as a radio jockey with Radio Mirchi. Acting mainly in comedy films, he rose to fame following his performances in the Venkat Prabhu directorials Chennai 600028 and Saroja, before also featuring in Thamizh Padam. His tenure with Radio Mirchi earned him the nickname "Mirchi Shiva".
Baradwaj Rangan is an Indian film critic and writer. A chemical engineering graduate with no formal training in filmmaking or cinema writing, he has had a diverse career in advertising, IT consulting, and cinema writing. He has authored two books on Indian cinema, written for The New Indian Express, The Hindu, and Tehelka, and has been a screenwriter and teacher. As a film critic, Rangan won the Best Film Critic category at the 53rd National Film Awards in 2006. He was the editor of Film Companion South until 2022 and is a member of the Film Critics Circle of India. Rangan currently works as a critic and chief editor for Galatta Plus and runs a Spotify podcast Cinema With Baradwaj Rangan.
Aaranya Kaandam is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language gangster film written and directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja in his directorial debut. It is supposedly the first neo-noir film in Tamil cinema. The plot takes place in a day in the lives of the six protagonists, played by Jackie Shroff, Ravi Krishna, Sampath Raj and debutants Yasmin Ponnappa, Guru Somasundaram and Master Vasanth. Produced by S. P. B. Charan's Capital Film Works, the musical score of the film were composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by P.S. Vinod and editing handled by the duo Praveen K. L.-N. B. Srikanth.
Thanga Meenkal is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Ram in his second directorial venture after Kattradhu Thamizh. The story was written by Ram and his daughter Shri Sankara Gomathy Ram, with the former, besides, played the lead role as well alongside newcomers Sadhana and Shelly Kishore. The film is jointly produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon and J. Satish Kumar under the banners Photon Kathaas and JSK Film Corporation, respectively.
Delhi in a Day is a 2011 Hindi independent film directed by Prashant Nair. The film was released on 24 August 2012 in cinemas. As per director Prashant Nair his film uses flashes of comedy to shine a light on the uncomfortable realities of contemporary life in a country that has been transformed in many ways by two decades of economic growth. The film features Victor Banerjee, Vidya Bhushan, Lillete Dubey, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Arun Mallick Kumar, Anjali Patil, Lee Williams, Gourav soni and Dinesh Yadav.
Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language neo-noir thriller film written, directed and produced by Mysskin. Sri of Vazhakku Enn 18/9 fame, Mysskin, and Shaji Chen play the lead roles in the film. The film score was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film had no heroine and no songs. Filming began on 11 March 2013 and the crew shot the entire film in and around Chennai city. Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum released on 27 September 2013 and got universal acclaim. This film acquired cult status in Tamil cinema and inspired similar themes.
X: Past is Present is a 2015 Indian collaborative feature film directed by a team of eleven filmmakers including Abhinav Shiv Tiwari, Anu Menon, Nalan Kumarasamy, Hemant Gaba, Pratim D. Gupta, Q, Raja Sen, Rajshree Ojha, Sandeep Mohan, Sudhish Kamath and Suparn Verma. It features actor-director Rajat Kapoor and Anshuman Jha in the lead. X is not an anthology, but one whole story with the eleven directors making sections of it. The film has been produced by Manish Mundra and has been announced for a nationwide release in India on 20 November 2015.
The 11th Chennai International Film Festival took place in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India from 12 to 19 December 2013. The event was organised by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) with support from the Government of Tamil Nadu. The festival was curated by actress-director Suhasini Maniratnam and inaugurated by Kamal Haasan and Aamir Khan. The Japanese drama Like Father, Like Son marked the beginning of the fest.

Seema Rahmani is an American film actress, television presenter, writer, producer, director, singer, event host, poet, and a philanthropist.
Chaurahen is an Indian drama film directed by Rajshree Ojha, starring Zeenat Aman, Roopa Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan and Kiera Chaplin in the leading roles. The film was based on four short stories of eminent Hindi novelist Nirmal Verma. Shooting was completed in 2007 but the film was shelved due to financial problems. The film was finally released on 16 March 2012 through PVR Pictures.
Sudhish Kamath is an Indian film critic working with the daily newspaper The Hindu and also an Independent filmmaker. He started working as a Chief reporter with a tabloid called Metro Ads in 1995. Then, from 1997, he worked for A.M.Plus, the Saturday supplement to Udayavani's Morning News. He left that work to join The Hindu in 1999. He mostly writes film review in The Hindu and also interviews film stars and celebrities for the same newspaper.
S. Sashikanth is an Indian film producer, architect, film director, and entrepreneur from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. After studying architecture at university, Sashikanth established the Chennai-based design firm Space Scape in 2002, which became involved in major projects such as the British Council and other residential and corporate building designs. Sashikanth later shifted to film production through the establishment of a production studio, YNOT Studios, and the 2010 release of his first film, Thamizh Padam.
