Gopala Pillai

G. C. Gopala Pillai is an Indian bureaucrat who previously served as the chairman and managing director of Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore. He also founded the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA).

Pillai briefly served as the Head of Infrastructures for Kerala Limited. [1] Following his tenure at InKel, he was appointed chairman of the Public Sector Restructuring and Internal Audit Board for the Government of Kerala.[ citation needed ]

Education

Pillai graduated from Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram, and obtained an additional degree in law and completed his MSW from Loyola College of Social Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram.[ citation needed ] He also attended a PEMC course from the University of Leeds, England. [2]

Career

Pillai served in KINFRA for nearly 14 years and ensured that the body became the most successful infrastructure firm operated by the Kerala Government. He started 29 industrial parks across the state, most of which are currently still in operation. [3]

Pillai was awarded fellowships by the All-India Management Association (AIMA) and the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) as recognition for his performance in different sectors.[ citation needed ] He was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of FACT, the largest public sector enterprise in Kerala through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), Government of India.[ citation needed ] Due to the differences with the then Fertilizers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Pillai later resigned from his position.

The Government of Kerala invited Pillai to head INKEL, a new infrastructure firm similar to KINFRA but run by private participation. He currently serves as the Chairman of Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (KELTRON).[ citation needed ]

Pillai was elected chairman of the World Malayalee Council in 2024. [4]

Personal life

Pillai is married to Latha, a medical practitioner. They have a son together. [5] [6]
