Gosford Hospital is a state owned public hospital [1] in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) which is a division of New South Wales Ministry of Health. Gosford Hospital provides a range of medical, surgical and maternity services to the Central Coast region of New South Wales.
The former hospital in Gosford, Gosford District Hospital, was opened by Hon C.A. Kelly, M.L.A., on 26 May 1945.
There have been progressive upgrades and expansion to the medical, patient, and staff facilities throughout the history of the hospital. This includes the adaption of buildings in and around the hospital to provide additional health services. [2]
The hospital's emergency department is the third busiest in the state. [3] Patients needing advanced care in specialties not present in Gosford, such as cardio-thoracic or neurosurgery, are transferred to other NSW hospitals including Royal North Shore Hospital, John Hunter Hospital or Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children.
Gosford Hospital is a multi-level building covering eleven storeys and is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Newcastle and the University of New England. Medical, nursing, and allied health students are placed there for practical terms.

Gosford is a waterfront city at the northern end of Brisbane Water on the Central Coast in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The Gosford waterfront is known for its boating and scenic views on the shores of Brisbane Water. Gosford is the main commercial hub and gateway of the Central Coast. It is situated approximately 77 km (48 mi) north of Sydney and 86 km (53 mi) south of Newcastle. Gosford is located in the local government area of the Central Coast Council.
The Central Coast is a peri-urban region lying on the Pacific Ocean in northern-eastern New South Wales, Australia. The region is situated north of Sydney, which is filled with subtropical national parks, forests and also encompasses the major coastal waterways of Brisbane Water, Tuggerah Lakes and southern Lake Macquarie. The Callan Park Hospital for the Insane (1878–1914) is a heritage-listed former insane asylum, which was subsequently, for a time, used as a college campus, located in the grounds of Callan Park, an area on the shores of Iron Cove in Lilyfield, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In 1915, the facility was renamed as the Callan Park Mental Hospital and, again in 1976, to Callan Park Hospital. Since 1994, the facility has been formally known as Rozelle Hospital. It is located on the banks of the Shoalhaven River 1 km (0.62 mi) from the Nowra CBD. The secondary health care facility is the main acute care hospital for the region, serving a population of over 100,000. The hospital is operated by the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District In the 2009–2010 financial year, SDMH handled 21,193 hospitalisations.
