Goski Alabi is a Ghanaian academic, author and entrepreneur. She was the founding Dean of the School Graduate Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra. [1] She is the President of Laweh Open University which happens to be the first accredited Open University College in Ghana established in 2014. [2] [3] [4]

Early life and education

Goski Alabi was born in Accra and grew up in Nungua in the Greater Accra Region. [4] She had her secondary school education at Ada Secondary school, Nungua secondary school for her GCE Ordinary Level and St Mary's Senior High school for her GCE Advanced level. [4] Alabi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast. [3] She obtained a Master of Philosophy in Food Science from the University of Ghana, a Doctor of Business Administration from the Swiss Management Centre. [3] She also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Business Administration from the Central University of Nicaragua. [3]

Career

Alabi is an educationist who started her academic career as a lecturer at the then Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) now University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA). She served as the founding Dean of the School of Graduate studies at UPSA. [3] [1] She currently the Dean of the Centre for International Education and Collaboration at UPSA. [5] Serving in those roles, she proposed and facilitated the establishment of two Leadership Centres, the Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership and Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership at the university campus.

She rose through the academic ranks and is currently a Professor of Quality Management and Leadership. [6] She co-founded Laweh Open University College along with her husband Prof. Joshua Alabi and is the President of the University. [3] [7]

Publications and professional boards

Alabi has published several scholarly and peer reviewed journal articles, books chapters, books, conference and technical papers. [8] [9] She is the author of ''Managing for Excellence in the Twenty-First Century: The Total Quality Approach'' which was published in November 2016. [10] [11] Alabi is the West African Representative for the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) and the board chairperson of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE). [6]

Philanthropy work

Alabi is the founder of GAB Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to the cause of the vulnerable and marginalised in the society. The foundation has been operating over 20 years and celebrated it 20th anniversary in January 2020 by organizing a get together for Persons With Disability (PWDs) and providing two of them with a scholarship to her open university. [12]

She is married to Joshua Alabi, a Ghanaian academic and politician who served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) from 2012 to 2016.They have two children [13] [14]

Joshua Alabi is a Ghanaian academic and politician, who served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) from 2012 to 2016. He previously served as the Rector of the same institution from 2009 to 2012 and Pro-Rector from 2005 to 2008. In Ghanaian politics, Alabi was the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra from 1997 to 2001 and Minister of State for the Greater Accra and the Northern Regions respectively from 1997 to 2001.

George Kwabena Effah Benneh was a Ghanaian geographer, academic and university administrator who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon from 1992 to 1996. He was a professor and later an emeritus professor of Geography and Resource Development at the same university. Most governments decided to temporarily close educational institutions in an attempt to reduce the spread of COVID-19. As of 12 January 2021, approximately 825 million learners are affected due to school closures in response to the pandemic. According to UNICEF monitoring, 23 countries are implementing nationwide closures and 40 are implementing local closures, impacting about 47 percent of the world's student population. 112 countries' schools are open.

Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante also known as J.O.Y. Mante is a Ghanaian theologian and Presbyterian minister who currently serves as the 18th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), equivalent to the chief executive officer or managing director of the national church organisation. Prior to his appointment as moderator he served as the President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon for 7 years. In August 2018, Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante was elected the new Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), to succeed Cephas Narh Omenyo, the then incumbent, who had been ill for over a year and the General Assembly had to take a decision to declare the moderator seat vacant to allow new leadership.

George Akuffo Dampare is a Ghanaian chartered accountant and police officer. He was appointed as the acting Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 21 July 2021 effective 1 August 2021, taking over from James Oppong-Boanuh who had been serving since October 2019.
