Government College, Birnin Kudu is a secondary school in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State. Founded as a middle school in 1947 by the regional government, the college has some notable alumni, [1] including five governors and industrialist Aliko Dangote. [2]

Mohammed Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, FNSE FNIQS is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kano state from 1999 to 2003 and from 2011 to 2015. After he lost his re-election in 2003, he was appointed the first Minister of Defence of the Fourth Republic with no prior military background, from 2003 to 2007, under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was later elected to the Senate in 2015, serving one term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Kano Central Senatorial District.

Sule Lamido is a Nigerian politician who served as the governor of Jigawa State from 2007 to 2015. He previously served as the foreign affairs minister of Nigeria from 1999 to 2003. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Alhaji Sir Muhammadu Sanusi I KBE was the Acting Governor of Northern Nigeria (1957) and Emir of Kano from 1954 to 1963. He was the eldest son of Emir Abdullahi Bayero. He was a powerful Emir that had substantial influence in the colonial Northern Nigeria. He hosted a grand durbar festival for Elizabeth II when she visited Kano in 1956. The power tussle between him and his distant cousin Sir Ahmadu Bello the Sardauna of Sokoto and accusations of financial malfeasance led to his abdication, and subsequent self-exile in Azare 1963. His grandson, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria reigned as Emir of Kano from 2014 to 2020, was dethroned by the state government in 2020 then reinstated on 24th May 2024 by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Sanusi belonged to the reformed Tijaniyya order of Ibrahim Niass.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aminu Ado Bayero</span> Former Emir of Kano

Mal Aminu Ado Bayero, is the Former Emir of Kano having served as the 15th Fulani Emir of Kano from the Fulani Sullubawa clan. He ascended the throne on 9 March 2020, following the deposition of his nephew Muhammad Sanusi II by Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He was deposed as emir in 2024 after the Emirates law that had divided Kano into five Emirates was repealed. He is the chancellor of the University of Calabar.

Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero is the eldest son of Ado Bayero and the brother of dethroned Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. He was the Chiroma of Kano from 1990 to 2015; and was titled Wambai of Kano by his brother.

Alhaji Usman Alhaji is a Nigerian politician, an educationist and member of the Executive Council of Kano State who is the secretary to the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He is also the waziri of Gaya Emirate Council. He is the owner of Usman International School, the first all-inclusive education institution in Kano State for both normal students and those with all kinds of special needs.

Rumfa College is a high school located in the Northern part of Nigeria in Kano State, Founded in 1927 as a Kano Middle School, it later was renamed to Government College Kano, and is now named Rumfa College, Kano. The name Rumfa came from the name of Muhammad Rumfa.

The 2023 Jigawa State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Jigawa State, concurrent with elections to the Jigawa State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was later scheduled to hold three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

Karaye Emirate is a second-class Emirate council in Kano State with its headquarters in Karaye town.
