Grandma is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language thriller film directed by Shijinlal and starring Sonia Agarwal, Vimala Raman and Pournami. It was released on 8 July 2022. [1] [2]
Sonia Agarwal agreed terms to work on the film during late 2021. [3] Shijinlal had initially approached Vimala Raman to work with him on a different project, before asking her to join the shoot of Grandma. [4] The film was shot during a 30-day schedule in Kerala. [5] [4]
The film was released on 27 May 2022 to limited cinema halls across Tamil Nadu, and then re-released on 8 July 2022 to a wider audience. [6] A critic from Maalai Malar gave the film a positive review, revealing that the screenplay was "racy". [7] Logesh Balachandran of The Times of India noted that Grandma was "a decent watch", adding that "the good thing about director Shijinlal's Grandma is that there is neither a flashback for the supernatural element nor a revenge tale". [8] A critic from Aanthai Reporter also praised the film. [9] G.Gowtham Critic from India Herald "Although it is apparent that the director wanted to convey his ideology—that the spirit world is far better than the real one—the plot falls flat in the second half and leaves us wanting more." [10]
Selvaraghavan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor who has directed and acted predominantly Tamil films and few Telugu films. He had his directorial debut with Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002). Still, his father is credited for business reasons, which stars his brother Dhanush K. Raja, Selvaraghavan went on to make a series of romantic drama films with Kadhal Kondein (2003) and 7G Rainbow Colony (2004) before also venturing into coming-of-age films Pudhupettai (2006) and Mayakkam Enna (2011), both starring Dhanush. He has also ventured into making science fiction and fantasy films, such as depicting a fantasy Chola kingdom in Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and a parallel universe in Irandam Ulagam (2013). He has been critically acclaimed for his directorial skills.
Sonia Agarwal is an Indian actress known for her works predominantly in Tamil cinema and a few Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She is best known for her performances in films Kaadhal Kondein (2003), 7G Rainbow Colony (2004) and Pudhupettai (2006).
Poi is a 2006 Indian Tamil-language film, directed by K. Balachander in his 101st and final film as a director. Vimala Raman is an Australian born Indian actress and former model who has worked in Indian cinema. She appears in Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil language films. Born and brought up in Australia, she made her debut in 2006 with the Tamil film Poi. An established Bharatanatyam dancer and a graduate in B.Sc Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Raman had also won the title of Miss India Australia in 2004
Vaanam (transl. Sky) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Krish. A remake of his own Telugu film Vedam (2010), the film features an ensemble cast of Silambarasan, Bharath, Prakash Raj, Anushka Shetty, Santhanam, Sonia Agarwal and Saranya Ponvannan.
