The event began in 2003, as the successor to the Royal Sutton Fun Run with a total of 2,800 entrants raising just over £40,000. This was doubled in 2004 to £82,700 and a further £81,800 was added in 2005 before rising £108,300 in the 2006 event. In 2015, 203 charities and voluntary organisations nominated by the participants received a record-breaking £347,000 from the event. Over £2,540,000 has been distributed to charities and voluntary organisations since 2003.
It is sponsored by numerous local companies including Erdington based Cookes Furniture, Central Independent Newspapers Ltd who publish the Sutton Coldfield Observer, Tamworth Herald, Lichfield Mercury, and Walsall Advertiser, Chambers Group (Ford automotive dealership in Sutton Coldfield and a Mazda/Hyundai dealership in Tamworth) and Sutton based Square Circle - web and social media partner. The specially minted medal, presented to all who complete the course, is sponsored by Cookes Furniture.
In 2020, Webasto Roof Systems will be a main sponsor of the event for the second year running. Webasto's Minworth based manufacturing plant has over 400 employees. The Minworth plant supplies sunroof systems to Jaguar Land Rover and their products can be seen in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport as well as the Discovery, Discovery Sport and Evoque models.
The route is 8½ miles long and completely tarmacked. It begins in Sutton Coldfield town centre before entering Sutton Park at Boldmere Gate and running for 4½ miles before leaving the park at Four Oaks Gate. Participants then return to Sutton Coldfield town centre to finish on The Parade.
The 2020 event will take place on 31st May and starts at 11:00am.

Sutton Park is a large urban park located in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, West Midlands, England. Most of the park is a National Nature Reserve; large parts are also a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Sutton Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United Kingdom. The park covers more than 2,400 acres (970 ha) according to one source, or 2,200 acres (900 ha) according to another. It consists of a mix of heathland, wetlands and marshes, seven lakes, extensive ancient woodlands, several restaurants, a private 18-hole golf course on its western edge and a municipal golf course to the south, a donkey sanctuary, children's playgrounds and a visitors' centre. There is no entrance charge to the Park, however there is a parking charge for cars on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer. A wide range of leisure activities are undertaken in the park including dog walking, pony trekking, bike riding and kite flying and there are areas to fly model aeroplanes and helicopters. Additionally, a railway line runs through the park.

The A453 road was formerly the main trunk road connecting the English cities of Nottingham and Birmingham. However, the middle section of this mainly single-carriageway road has largely been downgraded to B roads or unclassified roads following the construction of the parallel M42-A42 link around 1990. The M42 was originally meant to pass further north than it does, and to join the M1 at Sandiacre in Derbyshire. The M42/A42 does not enter Derbyshire, but instead joins the M1 closer to the A453 junction at Kegworth. The A42 shadows the former A453 from Appleby Magna to Castle Donington. The road historically connected the East Midlands with the West Midlands.

In 2014, Warwickshire Association for the Blind changed its operating name to Warwickshire Vision Support. In 2020 the organisation was a recipient of the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.
