The Great Northern Brewing Co., commonly known as Great Northern, is a brand of full and a mid strength lager beer, [1] owned by Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), and is brewed in Queensland at the CUB Yatala Brewery. It comes in 330mL "stubbies", 375mL "tinnies" and 700mL "tallies" (ie. tall bottles) at 3.5% Abv or 4.2% Abv. [2]
In 2010 the Japanese company Asahi, through its wholly owned Victorian subsidiary CUB, announced the launch of a new brewery Great Northern Brewing Co. [2] . Great Northern is styled on 'Cairns Draught', a product first brewed in 1924 by Auguste Joseph François de Bavay, whose studies of sewage contamination in drinking water helped end diseases such as typhoid. [3] Both brands feature a marlin character in their logo and package designs. [4] .
In the bottles the full strength 'original' style beers are identifiable by the gold-coloured bottle top and a white-coloured marlin fish on its label whereas the mid strength has a silver-coloured bottle cap with a black marlin on the label.
It was recently (2022) the best selling beer in Australia. [5]

NT Draught is a lager produced by Carlton & United Breweries (CUB), a subsidiary of Asahi Breweries. NT Draught are the makers of the Darwin Stubby. A Darwin Stubby refers to several large beer bottle sizes in Australia. It was first introduced in April 1958 with an 80-imperial-fluid-ounce capacity. The 2.25-litre Darwin Stubby has an iconic, if kitsch status in Australian folklore. In May 2015 Carlton & United Breweries announced that they will no longer brew NT Draught on a regular basis.

Power's Brewery now CUB brewery, is a brewery based at Yatala in South East Queensland, Australia. It started out as an upstart brewery headed by publican Bernie Power to compete against the major Queensland brewery Castlemaine Perkins, in particular XXXX, during the Australian beer wars of the late 1980s. When mogul Alan Bond took over XXXX, Power's commenced operations in 1988. Castlemaine Perkins changed their terms of credit to hoteliers from one month to one week in late 1985. Power then became determined to brew his own brand. He head hunted a number of young brewers from various brands.
