Greece competed in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics which was held in Samsun, Turkey. Greece sent a delegation consisting of 54 competitors for the multi-sporting event. [1]
The delegates who represented Greece won a total of 5 medals at the Deaflympic event including 2 gold medals to their medal tally. [2]
Greece deaf women's basketball team created history in the basketball competition after beating favourites and European champions Lithuania in the women's basketball final to secure the gold medal with the final score ending up in the favour of Greece, 67–50. [3] [4] This was the first instance where the national women's deaf basketball team was managed to clinch the gold medal in the competition. However, the Greek deaf men's basketball team only managed to secure the 4th place in the men's basketball event. [5]

Miha Zupan is a Slovenian former professional basketball player. He played among hearing players at the highest level in Europe, despite being deaf since birth. He is a 2.05 m power forward who can also play center when needed. He is the only deaf person to play in professional basketball league and in the EuroCup. Miha Zupan has competed at the Deaflympics on 5 occasions from 1997 to 2017.

She is considered one of the finest deaflympic alpine skiers to have competed at the Deaflympics and also regarded as a finest athlete to have represented Czech Republic at the Deaflympics with a record haul of 10 medals including 7 gold medals. In the 2015 Winter Deaflympics she created history after winning gold medals in all five events such as giant slalom, super combined, slalom, downhill and Super-G.
Nele Alder-Baerens is a German female distance runner and marathon runner. She is regarded as one of the finest long-distance runners from Germany to have represented the nation at the Deaflympics. Nele Alder-Baerens has represented Germany at the Deaflympics in 1997, 2001, 2005, 2017 and in 2022 has clinched 5 medals in her Deaflympic career including 2 gold medals. She is also the defending champion in the women's marathon at the Deaflympics. Nele also currently holds few deaf world records in the women's Athletics.

Allen John is a German professional golfer. He is profoundly deaf. He became a professional golfer in 2011 and played on the Challenge Tour in 2012. He was re-instated as an amateur in 2016. He represented Germany at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics when golf was included in the Summer Deaflympics for the first time and competed in the men's individual golf event securing a gold medal. Since 2018, John has returned to the professional ranks.

He has represented the United States at the Deaflympics and in other international events including the Deaf World Championships. He is a world record holder in swimming for deaf and is considered one of the finest deaf swimmers to represent USA after the retirements of Marcus Titus and Reed Gershwind. He made his Deaflympic debut at the 2013 Summer Deaflympics.
The United States competed at the 2019 Winter Deaflympics which was held in Valtellina and Valchiavenna, Italy, from December 12 to 21, 2019. The United States was one of the 34 nations to compete at the multi-sport event. This was the nation's 12th appearance at the Winter Deaflympics, having regularly participated at the event since making its debut in 1967. 42 athletes represented the United States at the Deaflympics in all six sporting events including chess, cross-country skiing, curling, ice hockey, alpine skiing, and snowboarding.
