Green's End is a historic village and populated area in Middletown, Rhode Island. Witherbee School (1900) is located in the area.
Green's End is also the name of the main road in the area and a large body of water.
Around 1650 the state fruit, the Rhode Island Greening was developed in Green's End by Mr. Green, a local tavern owner who operated Green's Inn. Greening would grow and give grafts of the Rhode Island Greening to passersby. The Rhode Island Greening was one of the most popular apples grown in New York in the nineteenth century. [1] [2]
One of the first Baptist churches in the United States was founded in Green's End in 1644. It is now known as United Baptist Church.
Green End Fort was long thought to have been built during the American Revolution in 1777 by British troops occupying Newport, as the eastern terminus of their defensive works in the area. More recent scholarship indicates it was more probably built by the French army in 1780 during its occupation of Newport. It is one of the few remaining earthwork fortifications in the state of Rhode Island. [3]

The Battle of Rhode Island Site is the partially preserved location of the Battle of Rhode Island, fought August 29, 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. The battle took place in the town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, located on Aquidneck Island north of Newport, and was the only major action of the war that took place in Rhode Island. It was also significant as the only battle of the war in which an entirely segregated unit of African-American soldiers fought. At the time of the action, the 1st Rhode Island Regiment consisted of companies of locally recruited African Americans and Native Americans with white officers. The two main areas associated with the battle were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974.
Lonsdale is a village and historic district in Lincoln and Cumberland, Providence County, Rhode Island, United States, near Rhode Island Route 146 and Route 95. The village was originally part of the town of Smithfield until Lincoln was created in the 1870s, and was originally centered on the Lincoln side of the Blackstone River. William Blaxton settled in the area in 1635. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Lonsdale was home to several manufacturers including the Lonsdale Company's Bleachery, and the Ann & Hope mill was also located in the village in Cumberland.
Berkeley Mill Village is a historic district encompassing the mill village of Berkeley in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The village is roughly bounded by Martin Street and Mendon Road on the north and east, railroad tracks to the west, and St. Joseph Cemetery to the south. The village, including a mill complex and mill employee housing, was built in 1872 by the Lonsdale Company. Most of the residential structures built are two-story brick duplexes, although Mendon Street is lined with a number of fine Queen Anne Victorian houses. A c. 1892 Stick-style church building, stands on Mendon Street at the northern end of the district.

It is one of the two oldest Baptist congregations in the United States and is currently affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA.
