Summers County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,959. Its county seat is Hinton. The county was created by an act of the West Virginia Legislature on February 27, 1871, from parts of Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer and Monroe counties and named in honor of George W. Summers (1804–68).

The Greenbrier River is a tributary of the New River, 162 miles (261 km) long, in southeastern West Virginia, in the United States. Via the New, Kanawha and Ohio rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 1,656 square miles (4,290 km2). It is one of the longest rivers in West Virginia.
Greenbrier Valley Airport is three miles north of Lewisburg in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Contour Airlines schedules airline flights, subsidized by the Essential Air Service program, to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport had 7,153 passenger boardings (enplanements) in calendar year 2008, 4,651 in 2009 and 12,293 in 2010. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 called it a non-primary commercial service airport based on enplanements in 2008/2009.

On June 23, 2016, a flood hit areas of the U.S. state of West Virginia and nearby parts of Virginia, resulting in 23 deaths. The flooding was the result of 8 to 10 inches of rain falling over a period of 12 hours, resulting in a flood that was among the deadliest in West Virginia history. It is also the deadliest flash flood event in the United States since the 2010 Tennessee floods.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Depot in Ronceverte, West Virginia is a historic train station built in 1915 and is part of the Ronceverte Historic District. The depot stopped serving to passengers when Amtrak started operation on May 1, 1971, and discontinued services to the station, although the line still has the Cardinal using the route. Currently, the depot serves as an office for CSX, the latter of which is restoring the station at the cost of $500,000.
