Greg Florimo (born 17 May 1967) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer and current rugby league administrator known for his lifelong association with the North Sydney Bears both as a player and CEO.
Florimo began playing as a junior in the North Sydney district for Willoughby at age seven before playing for McMahons Point, Crows Nest and North Sydney Brothers. He also played for the Lane Cove Rugby Club Juniors. [3] His secondary education was at North Sydney Boys High School. [4]
He played 285 first-grade games for the North Sydney Bears over 13 seasons, starting his career in the centres before moving to five-eighth. He made his début for the Bears in 1986 and retired in 1998. In first grade he scored 73 tries, 3 goals and 1 field goal. He famously called the North Sydney fans onto North Sydney Oval in 1997 after the game when Norths defeated traditional rivals Manly 41-8.
Florimo's final game for Norths was in the 23–2 minor semi-final defeat by the Bulldogs. In total Florimo played 285 games for Norths which is more appearances than any other player at the club. [5] [6]
For NSW he played four State of Origin games between 1988 and 1995. He played four Tests for Australia between 1994 and 1995. [7] He played in the Super League for English clubs Wigan Warriors in 1999 and Halifax in 2000.
Greg Florimo kicked two field goals in his senior rugby league career. The first came in a 19-10 win for North Sydney over Cronulla-Sutherland in Round 11 of the 1991 season. The second came in the second test of the 1995 Trans-Tasman Test series against New Zealand at the Sydney Football Stadium in which Australia won 20-10 and wrapped up the series 2-0.
He was one of only two players ever to score a 10/10 performance in a match by Rugby League Week . In August 2006 Florimo was named at centre in the North Sydney Bears' Team of the Century . He is the brother-in-law of fellow former North Sydney Bears player Gary Larson.
Florimo is also associated with the North Sydney Rugby League Referee's association, refereeing mini and mod footy on Saturday mornings.
Florimo was at one stage the North Sydney Bears CEO, and is advocating a return for the club to the NRL. [8] Florimo's son, Jay, was a member of the Wyong Roos squad in the NSW Cup competition (NSW Cup was formerly known as Reserve Grade). [9]
On 25 January 2019, Florimo was announced as a Wellbeing, Education and Community Manager at the club. [10]
The North Sydney Bears is an Australian rugby league football club based in North Sydney, New South Wales. The club competes in the New South Wales Cup, having exited the National Rugby League following the 1999 NRL season after 90 years in the premier rugby league competition in Australia. North Sydney is based on Sydney's Lower North Shore, and has played at North Sydney Oval since 1910. There have been on-going bids to resurrect the club in the NRL as either The Bears, based in Perth and Sydney, or as the Central Coast Bears, based at Gosford.

The Northern Eagles were a rugby league team that competed in the National Rugby League (NRL) between 2000 and 2002. The club was formed during the rationalisation process of the NRL by forming a joint venture with the North Sydney Bears and the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2000. The team shared home games between Brookvale Oval and Central Coast Stadium, Gosford, New South Wales.
The Adelaide Rams was an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The team was formed in 1995 for the planned rebel Super League competition. The Rams lasted two seasons, the first in the Super League competition in 1997 and the second in the first season of the National Rugby League (NRL) in 1998. The Rams were not a successful club, winning only 13 out of 42 games. However crowd numbers in the first season were the fifth highest of any first-grade club that year, but dwindled to sixteenth in the second season. The Adelaide club was shut down at the end of the 1998 season as a result of poor on-field performances, dwindling crowd numbers, financial losses and a reduction in the number of teams in the NRL. They remain the only team from the state of South Australia to have participated in top-level rugby league in Australia.
Matt King is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer. A New South Wales State of Origin and Australian international representative centre or wing, he played in the Super League for English club the Warrington Wolves and in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Melbourne Storm. During his time in England he won the 2009 and 2010 Challenge Cups with Warrington Wolves and was also named at centre in the 2010 Super League Dream Team.
George Ndaira is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s and the current head coach of the Newtown Jets. He played at representative level for Lebanon, and at club level in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Newcastle Knights, as a hooker or halfback.
The NSW Cup, currently known as the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a rugby league competition for clubs in New South Wales. The competition has a history dating back to the NSWRFL's origins in 1908, starting off as a reserve grade competition, and is now the premier open age competition in the state. The New South Wales Cup, along with the Queensland Cup, acts as a feeder competition to the National Rugby League premiership. The competition is the oldest continuous rugby league competition in the Australia.
Mark O'Meley is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer of Irish descent who played as a prop in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s he also played junior footy for the Northern Lakes Warriors and the Wyong Roos. He also went on to coach the Wyong Roos.
Mark Coyne is an Australian former rugby league footballer, a state and international representative player and an Insurance Executive. His football club career was with the St George Dragons and the joint-venture of the St George Illawarra Dragons – he captained both sides. He played principally at centre but sometimes as a wing in his notable representative career. He was also the brother of another first grade footballer, Peter Coyne.
Gary Larson is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played as a lock, prop and second-row forward in the 1980s and 1990s.
Yileen "Buddy" Gordon is an Australian rugby league footballer who plays for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NSW Cup. Gordon formerly played for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Penrith Panthers. He was sacked by the West Tigers in February, 2014 for breach of contract. He currently plays in the Centres and has previously played in the back-row or at centre.
Lane Cove Rugby Union Football Club is a rugby union club founded in 1949 and which participates in the New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union ("Subbies") competition. The club is situated in Lane Cove in Sydney, Australia. The home ground is Tantallon Oval. The club was successful in Sydney Rugby through the 1950s and 1960s and competitive in Division One Sub-Districts into the 1980s with victories including the Under 21 New South Wales State Premiership, the Bruce Graham Shield, Kentwell Cup, Whiddon Cup, Judd Cup trophies among others. Notable players have included Wallabies Ken Yanz and Saxon White, and Kangaroo Greg Florimo. Having been historically a Division One Club, Lane Cove seniors currently plays in New South Wales' Subbies' Division Five, while the thriving Lane Cove Juniors participate in the Gordon Juniors competition.
The 2004 Melbourne Storm season was the 7th in the club's history. They competed in the NRL's 2004 Telstra Premiership and finished the regular season 6th out of 15 teams.
The 2013 New South Wales Cup season is the second tier rugby league competition held in New South Wales, after the National Rugby League. The 2012 season of the New South Wales Cup commences on Saturday 19 March 2013. The Minor Premiership has ended with Cronulla sitting on top of the ladder at 43 points as the teams head into finals. The grand final will be played at ANZ Stadium at the 2013 NRL Grand Final, and will be broadcast by Fox Sports.
Josh Mantellato is a former Italy international rugby league footballer who most recently played on the wing for The Entrance Tigers in the Denton Engineering Cup. He previously played for the Wyong Roos in the Central Coast Division Rugby League competition, Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League and the Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League.
