A central bank,reserve bank,or monetary authority is an institution that manages the currency and monetary policy of a country or monetary union. In contrast to a commercial bank,a central bank possesses a monopoly on increasing the monetary base. The Central Bank of Nigeria is the central bank and apex monetary authority of Nigeria established by the CBN Act of 1958 and commenced operations on 1 July 1959.
