Groton Wind Power Project a 48-megawatt wind farm, also known as Groton Wind Farm was constructed in 2012 in Groton, New Hampshire in the northeast United States. Owned by Iberdrola Renovables, it is the third major wind-power installation in the state of New Hampshire. Power is being sold to NSTAR under a power purchase agreement, and will go to the Boston area. [2]
Located on Tenney Mountain and Fletcher Mountain in Groton, [3] in Grafton County, it has 24 Gamesa G87, 2.0 MW turbines wind turbines. Delivery of turbine components began on June 25, 2012, and continued through August. [4]
Groton is a town in Grafton County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 593 at the 2010 census.
Wind power or wind energy is the use of wind to provide the mechanical power through wind turbines to turn electric generators and traditionally to do other work, like milling or pumping. Wind power is a sustainable and renewable energy, and has a much smaller impact on the environment compared to burning fossil fuels.
A wind farm or wind park, also called a wind power station or wind power plant, is a group of wind turbines in the same location used to produce electricity. Wind farms vary in size from a small number of turbines to several hundred wind turbines covering an extensive area. Wind farms can be either onshore or offshore.
The United Kingdom is one of the best locations for wind power in the world and is considered to be the best in Europe. Wind power contributed 18% of UK electricity generation in 2018. Onshore wind power has the lowest levelised cost of electricity in the United Kingdom when a carbon cost is applied to generating technologies. In 2016, wind power first surpassed coal in UK electricity generation, and in the first quarter of 2018 surpassed nuclear power generation for the first time.
Hoosac Wind Power Project is a wind farm on Crum Hill in Monroe, Massachusetts and on Bakke Mountain in Florida, Massachusetts. Owned and operated by Iberdrola Renewables, it is the largest wind farm in Massachusetts, with 19 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 28.5 MW. The Hoosac Wind power project became fully operational in 2012, and provides enough electricity to power 10,000 homes annually.
Wind power in the United States is a branch of the energy industry that has expanded quickly over the latest several years. For the twelve months through September 2019, 286.6 terawatt-hours were generated by wind power, or 6.94% of all generated electrical energy.
Wind power in Ohio has a long history, and as of 2016, Ohio had 545 megawatt (MW) of utility-scale wind power installations installed, responsible for 1.1% of in-state electricity generated. Over 1000 MW more were under construction or pending approval. Some installations have become tourist attractions. There has been a sudden increase in generating capacity, as total windpower generation in the state in 2010 was just 9.7 MW.
As of 2017, the Republic of Ireland has 2,878 megawatt of installed wind power nameplate capacity. In 2015 wind turbines generated 23% of Ireland's average electricity demand, one of the highest wind power penetration in the world. Ireland's 226 wind farms, are almost exclusively onshore, with only the 25 MW Arklow Bank Wind Park situated offshore as of 2017.
Community wind projects are locally owned by farmers, investors, businesses, schools, utilities, or other public or private entities who utilize wind energy to support and reduce energy costs to the local community. The key feature is that local community members have a significant, direct financial stake in the project beyond land lease payments and tax revenue. Projects may be used for on-site power or to generate wholesale power for sale, usually on a commercial-scale greater than 100 kW.
Lempster Mountain Wind Power Project is a 24-megawatt wind farm, opened in 2008 in Lempster, New Hampshire in the northeast United States. Owned by Iberdrola, it is the first major wind-power installation in the state of New Hampshire.
There are a number of wind power projects in the state of Maine, totalling more than 900 MW in capacity and responsible for 13.85% of in-state electricity production. The largest single wind farm is the Bingham Wind Farm in Kingsbury Plantation with an installed capacity of 185 MW.
Wind power in New Hampshire began in 1980, with the installation of the world's first wind farm at Crotched Mountain, consisting of 20 30 kW wind turbines, although it closed decades ago. as of 2019, three wind power projects are operating in the state of New Hampshire – Lempster Mountain, which opened in 2008, Granite Wind, which opened in late 2011, and Granite Reliable Wind Farm - with a fourth under construction.
The Lincs Wind Farm is a 270 MW offshore wind farm 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) off Skegness on the east coast of England. The total cost of the project is estimated at £1 billion including electrical transmission links. The farm was completed in 2013. It is adjacent to the smaller Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farm.
The Capital Wind Farm near Bungendore is the largest wind farm in New South Wales. It is part of the 6,000-hectare (15,000-acre) Capital Renewable Energy Precinct, along with nearby Woodlawn Wind Farm and the Capital East Solar Demonstration Plant.
Alta Wind Energy Center (AWEC), also known as Mojave Wind Farm, is the third largest onshore wind energy project in the world. The Alta Wind Energy Center is a wind farm located in Tehachapi Pass of the Tehachapi Mountains, in Kern County, California. As of 2013, it is the largest wind farm in the United States, with a combined installed capacity of 1,547 MW (2,075,000 hp). The project, being developed near Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm— site of the first large-scale wind farms installed in the U.S. in the 1970s and 1980s—is "a powerful illustration of the growing size and scope of modern wind projects".
Walney Wind Farms are a group of offshore wind farms 9 miles (14 km) west of Walney Island off the coast of Cumbria, in the Irish Sea, England. The group, operated by Ørsted, consists of Walney Phase 1, Phase 2 and the Walney Extension. The extension has a capacity of 659 MW making it the world's largest offshore wind farm.
The Mampuri Wind Farms are a set of three wind farms located near the Lakvijaya Power Station, on the Kalpitiya peninsula, in Mampuri, Puttalam District, Sri Lanka. The wind farms, referred to as Mampuri-I, Mampuri-II, and Mampuri-III, was built successively, and consists of eighteen Suzlon wind turbines ranging from 1.25 MW to 2.10 MW. Mampuri-I was commissioned on 22 March 2010, and was the first wind farm in the country to reach the 10 MW installed capacity threshold. As the government only allows projects up to 10 MW, the three wind farms are registered under three different company names, namely Senok Wind Power, Senok Wind Energy, and Senok Wind Resource.
The Berkshire Wind Power Project is a wind farm on Brodie Mountain in Hancock, Massachusetts. Owned and operated by the Berkshire Wind Power Cooperative Corporation, it is the second largest wind farm in Massachusetts, with 10 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 15 MW. The Berkshire wind power project became fully operational in 2011, and provides enough electricity to power 6,000 homes annually.
Jericho Mountain, also known locally as Black Mountain, is a mountain in Coös County, New Hampshire, in the United States. It has an elevation of 2,454 feet (748 m).
