Growing Pains is the debut studio album from the English alternative rock band Dinosaur Pile-Up. The album was released for CD, vinyl and digital download on 4 October 2011 on the Friends vs Records label. [1]
The whole album was recorded solely by lead singer and guitarist Matt Bigland in a homemade studio in Bridlington between late 2009 and early 2010. [2] Also around this time, Steve Wilson (drums) and Tom Dornford-May (bass) left the band to pursue other projects. This meant whilst Matt was recording Growing Pains he had to bring in new members Harry Johns (bass) and Mike Shiels (drums). [3] The album was released 4 October 2010. In September 2009, an early version of "All Around the World" was featured in the video game Colin McRae: Dirt 2 .
The reviews for Growing Pains have been moderate to favorable.
NME rated Growing Pains a 7/10, saying that "DP-U don’t give the most fleeting of shits about anything even remotely modern. Having said that, seeing as most of the attention focused on them thus far has focused on their being either (kindly) grunge revivalists or (unkindly) Nirvana copyists, it’s worth making clear that 'Growing Pains' is significantly better than either description suggests. Sure, there's more than a hint of the Cobain in the ragged guitars and slightly self-centred lyrical conceits, but rather than just aping Nirvana they instead share similar influences – particularly Pixies and Melvins – as well as update the mid-'90s college rock sound that Archers of Loaf, Guided By Voices and Built To Spill made their own." The Guardian gave the album 4/5 stars, saying, "Growing Pains is part Nirvana with the confrontation dialled down, part Foo Fighters with the punkishness turned up. It's great, rowdy fun, though, and nothing gets in the way of the tunes: Never That Together keeps teasing the listener with a brief lift from the Beatles' "Please Please Me", and former singles Mona Lisa, My Rock'n'Roll and Traynor should have been hits." AddictMusic.com gave the album 3/5 stars and have stated, "On the album there is only one track that leaves the relentless guitar chugging behind and opts for a softer direction – 'Hey You'. It is a shame because 'Hey You' is very beautiful, and shows the guys do have musical talent. More importantly it shows they are not afraid to deviate from their archetypal sound, yet for some reason they choose not to". The review also lists 'Birds and Planes', 'Never That Together' and 'Maybe Its You' as favorites and says, "Dinosaur Pile-Up have huge potential and they are definitely ones to look out for in the future, but 'Growing Pains' is just a little too repetitive to make it more than just another alt-rock album." Krist Anthony Novoselic is an American musician and activist. Novoselic co-founded and played bass for the rock band Nirvana.
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song by the American rock band Nirvana. It is the opening track and lead single from the band's second album, Nevermind (1991), released on DGC Records. The unexpected success of the song propelled Nevermind to the top of several albums charts at the start of 1992, an event often marked as the point when grunge entered the mainstream. It was Nirvana's biggest hit, charting high on music industry charts around the world in 1991 and 1992, and was number one on the charts in Belgium, France, New Zealand and Spain. It was met with wide critical acclaim, and described as an "anthem for apathetic kids" of Generation X. Although Nirvana grew uncomfortable with the mainstream and commercial attention the song brought to them, listeners and critics continue to praise "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as one of the greatest songs of all time. Having sold over 13 million units worldwide, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is one of the best selling songs of all time.

The Lemonheads are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston in 1986 by Evan Dando, Ben Deily, and Jesse Peretz. Dando has remained the band's only constant member. After their initial punk-influenced releases and tours as an independent/college rock band in the late 1980s, the Lemonheads' popularity with a mass audience grew in 1992 with the major label album It's a Shame about Ray, which was produced, engineered, and mixed by The Robb Brothers. This was followed by a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", which eventually became one of the band's most successful singles. The Aislers Set is an American indie pop band that formed in San Francisco in 1997, after the breakup of chief songwriter Linton's former band Henry's Dress. The Aislers Set's music is often interpreted as adjacent to C86-style British indie pop but the band's style transcends genres. The founding members were A V Linton, Wyatt Cusick, Alicia Vanden Heuvel,, Yoshi Nakamoto (drums), and Jen Cohen (organ). The band was primarily active from 1998 to 2003, touring the U.S., Europe, and Japan, releasing three self-recorded albums, numerous singles and even recording a Peel Session in 2001.
"Something in the Way" is a song by American rock band Nirvana, written by vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain. It is the 12th song on their second album, Nevermind, released in September 1991. It is the final listed song on the album, although most copies of Nevermind also feature the hidden track "Endless, Nameless", which occupies the same track as "Something in the Way" and begins after approximately 10 minutes of silence.
"The Man Who Sold the World" is a song by the English singer-songwriter David Bowie. The title track of Bowie's third studio album, it was released in November 1970 in the US and in April 1971 in the UK by Mercury Records. Produced by Tony Visconti, it was recorded at Trident and Advision Studios in London in May 1970, towards the end of the album's sessions; Bowie recorded his vocal on the final day of mixing for the album, reflecting his generally dismissive attitude during the sessions. Musically, it is based around a "circular" guitar riff from Mick Ronson. Take It from the Man! is the third studio album by American psychedelic rock band the Brian Jonestown Massacre. After recording their shoegaze-influenced debut album Methodrone (1995) and releasing a collection of early recordings, Spacegirl & Other Favorites, the band took influence from 1960s British psychedelic garage rock and recorded Take it from the Man! from November 1995–February 1996. After recording the entire album with an unnamed producer who scrapped the recordings, the band re-recorded the album on a minimal budget, mostly at Lifesource Studios in Emeryville, California with production from Psychic TV's Larry Thrasher, whose usual "studio" approach was vetoed out by the band's back-to-basics approach.

The Pains of Growing is the second studio album by Canadian singer and songwriter Alessia Cara. The album was released on November 30, 2018, by Def Jam Recordings. Its songs were mostly written by Cara herself, with co-writing from producers Pop & Oak. The Pains of Growing is a "coming of age" record, inspired by three years of the singer's life that led up to its release. Primarily, the album touches themes such as anxiety, heartbreak, and loneliness, as of Cara's experiences inside the music industry. Critics named Cara and her sound as "the big-sister of pop", and praised Cara's songwriting ability. The album would eventually win a Juno Award for Album of the Year at the 2020 Juno Awards, and would also receive accolades on other categories that same year.
