The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) [2] is a market research organization headquartered in Doha, Qatar whose activities involve preparing economic feasibility studies, researching socio-economic statistics and promoting regional co-ordination between industrial institutions. [3]

Founding

The GOIC [4] was founded in 1976 by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states: [5] The United Arab Emirates, [6] Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar [7] [8] and Kuwait, and in 2009, [9] [10] Yemen joined the Organization. The Organization is headquartered at Doha, Qatar. The organization chart of GOIC includes the Board members and the General Secretariat. The Board is formed by member state representatives appointed by their governments.

Abdullah bin Juma Al – Shibli from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the current observer from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Objectives

GOIC’s main mission [2] is the identification, evaluation and promotion of joint industrial projects in member states. In addition the GOIC publishes studies [11] [12] of the state of industries within the GCC, periodicals and maintains a number of useful databases. [13] [14] It also runs a number of training programs and conferences in various industrial subjects. Gulf Industrial Knowledge Centre (GIKC) will provide a unique set of GOIC’s outputs from various industrial studies and industrial investment opportunities, new reports about several industrial sectors. [15] The Sultanate of Oman hosted the 14th GCC Industrialists' Conference under the theme of "Industrial Exports: Opportunities & Challenges" on 2014 March 30 and 31. [16] [17] [18] The 15th Industrialists’ Conference on "FDI in GCC and its impact on industry" will be held in Kuwait for two days from Nov. 25, with the support of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, emir of Kuwait, and the participation of GCC ministers of industry [19]

Trust fund agreement between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Gulf Organization for industrial consulting regarding the implementation of a project entitled "Assistance in strengthening the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting, Phase 2:Industrial subcontracting and partnership exchange [20] " signed on 17 February 2006. [21]

Based on the above agreement between United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO), [22] The Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) is responsible for executing the subcontracting and partnership exchange program within GCC countries. [23] [24] [25]

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, originally known as the Gulf Cooperation Council, is a regional, intergovernmental political and economic union that consists of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The council's main headquarter is in the city of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The Charter of the GCC was signed on 25 May 1981, formally establishing the institution.

The Gulf Ice Hockey Championship, also known as the GCC Gulf Ice Hockey Championships, is an international ice hockey competition involving countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The inaugural tournament took place on May 25 to May 30 in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and was organized by the Kuwait Ice Hockey Association. The championship has featured teams from six countries since its formation and currently consists of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates has won all four editions of the championship, while Kuwait has finished second on three occasions and Qatar on one.

Qatar Charity

Once known as Qatar Charitable Society, Qatar Charity is a humanitarian and development non-governmental organization in the Middle East. It was founded in 1992 in response to the thousands of children who were made orphans by the Afghanistan war and while orphans still remain a priority cause in the organization's work with more than 150,000 sponsored orphans, it has now expanded its fields of action to include six humanitarian fields and seven development fields.

The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) is a standards organization for the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Yemen. It was established under the authority of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Its full official name is "the Standardization Organization of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf". It is headquartered in Riyadh and has a branch office in Jeddah. Where no GSO standard already exists, it reviews existing global standards and may adopt them. The GSO's Technical Council mandated the creation of a regional Metrology Organization to be called "GULFME". The GSO has also partnered with PepsiCo.

Iran–Qatar relations Bilateral relations

Iran–Qatar relations refer to the bilateral relations between the Iran and the Qatar. Iran has an embassy in Doha while Qatar has an embassy in Tehran. Qatar and Iran have close ties.

Migrant workers in the Gulf Cooperation Council region involves the prevalence of migrant workers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Together, these six countries form the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), established in 1981. The GCC cooperates on issues related to economy and politics, and the subject of migrant workers constitutes a substantial part of the council's collaboration. All of the GCC countries are dependent on migrant labor to bolster and stimulate economic growth and development, as the GCC countries possess an abundance of capital while the domestic labor capacity is low. Although migrant workers in the Persian Gulf region amount to no more than 10% of all migrants worldwide, they constitute a significant part of the populations of their host countries.

The Qatar diplomatic crisis was a diplomatic incident that began on 5 June 2017 when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic relations with Qatar and banned Qatar-registered planes and ships from utilising their airspace and sea routes, along with Saudi Arabia blocking Qatar’s only land crossing. They were later joined by Jordan and were supported by the Maldives, Mauritania, Senegal, Djibouti, the Comoros, and the Tobruk-based government in Libya.

Qatar–Saudi Arabia diplomatic conflict

The Qatar–Saudi Arabia diplomatic conflict refers to the ongoing struggle for regional influence between Qatar and Saudi Arabia (KSA), both of which are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Qatar–Saudi Arabia relations have been especially strained since the beginning of the Arab Spring, that left a power vacuum both states sought to fill, with Qatar being supportive of the revolutionary wave and Saudi Arabia opposing it. Both states are allies of the United States, and have avoided direct conflict with one another.

The GCC Games is a regional multi-sport event which involves participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council region. The GCC Games, a quadrennial multi-sport event, was established by the union and first held in 2011. There are numerous long-running GCC Championships for individual sports, including: the Gulf Cooperation Council Athletics Championships sailing, basketball, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, weightlifting, futsal, snooker, and table tennis.
