Gurumayum Bonny Sharma is an Indian actor and singer who predominantly appears in Manipuri films. [1] He is a resident of Keishamthong Maning Longjam Leikai, Imphal, Manipur. [2] He has also worked in the Shumang Kumheis including Kunti series, Nongallamdaisida, Opium War, and Pizza.
Bonny had tried many jobs before coming into the world of performing arts. [3] In 1994-95, he joined Bashikhong Dramatic Union. Later, he was a theatre artist for around ten years in Panthoibi Natya Mandir. [4] Before coming into films, he had already acted in Shumang Kumhei s. Aruba Eechel, Amamba Lambee, Kunti 6 (Mihatpung), Nongallamdaishida, Yeningthana Ngairi, Opium War and Pizza are his famous Shumang Leelas. [2] Both his parents were also theatre artist in the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU).
His first film is Lanmei Thanbi where he played a villain role, alongside Kaiku Rajkumar and Abenao Elangbam. [5] He is best known for his role as Yo Sanatombi in the film Yaiskulgee Pakhang Angaoba . Other famous films of Bonny are Nungshibase Phagi Natte, VDF Thasana , [6] Beragee Bomb , Chow Chow Momo na haobara Shingju Bora na oinambara , Yaiphare Yaiphare, Amamba Sayon, Western Sankirtan, Delhi Mellei and Mr. Khadang . In the movie Ningtha, he played a differently abled guy. He played double roles in the film Chow Chow Momo na haobara Shingju Bora na oinambara . In Producer Director, he was given the role of a film maker named Tomthin Cameroon. He portrayed the role of a mentally different guy in Tamoyaigee Ebecha .
VDF Thasana is a movie of his own home production. [8] He is well known for his unique acting skills and humour in Manipuri films.

Beragee Bomb is a 2013 Manipuri comedy film directed by O. Gautam and written by Laishram Santosh. It stars Gurumayum Bonny, Leishangthem Tonthoi, Loya, Suraj Sharma Laimayum and Edwin Soibam. The movie was released on 31 August 2013 at MFDC with a Red Carpet Event, hosted by WOL Media for the first time in Manipuri cinema. The official trailer of the film was released by WOL Media on 18 August 2013.

VDF Thasana is a 2014 Manipuri film written and directed by Homen D' Wai and produced by L. Momo Sharma, under the banner of Robin Color Picture. It stars Gurumayum Bonny as the titular protagonist with Leishangthem Tonthoi and Abenao Elangbam in the lead roles.
23rd Century : Ngasigee Matungda is a 2014 Manipuri film directed by Dinesh Tongbram and produced by Thambal Laishram, under the banner of United Films Manipur. The film features Gurumayum Bonny, Kaiku Rajkumar, Bala Hijam and Sonia Hijam in the lead roles. The film was premiered at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) on 17 October 2014. It is based on the 1992 theatrical play of Kamakhya Sangeet Mandal of the same title.

Shumang Kumhei, also known as Shumang Leela, is a Meitei traditional form of theatre, usually performed in Manipur, North East India. The theatre is arranged in the form of open air from four sides. The roles are all played by male actors, some dressed as beautiful ladies. The role of male characters are played by female artists in case of female theatre groups. This traditional theatre form was prevalent since the time of monarchical rule in Manipur. But the proper form of Shumang Leela had its inception in 1895 A.D.

Not only in digital films, but he had also acted in Manipuri celluloid movies. He was conferred with the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Award in 2020 for his profound contribution in Shumang Leela. Wari Loidri, Khomlang Laman, Thawaina Punshigidamak, Sanagi Nga, Keishamthong Thoibi were some of the famous plays where he acted.

The movie was released on 7 November 2021 at Manipur State Film Development Society in the Palace Compound, Imphal, with MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba attending as the chief guest. It was also screened at the Sangai Film Festival 2022, which was organised as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.

Portraying the lifestyle of Meiteis in Bangladesh, the film stars Gurumayum Bonny, Abenao Elangbam, Bala Tensubam, Narmada Sougaijam, Gepelina Mayanglambam and Ashok Seleibam in the lead roles.
