Sampath Kumar, known by his stage name Vishnuvardhan, was an Indian actor who worked predominantly in Kannada cinema besides also having sporadically appeared in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam language films. Vishnuvardhan has a prolific career spanning over four decades, during which he has acted in more than 220 films. A popular cultural icon of Karnataka, and holds the status of a matinée idol amongst the Kannada diaspora. He is popularly called as Sahasa Simha, Dada and The Angry Young Man of Kannada Cinema. Vishnuvardhan's contributions to Kannada cinema have been praised by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. The Government of Karnataka honoured him with the Rajyothsava Prashasthi in 1990 and the Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 for his contributions to Kannada cinema. He was called The Phoenix of Indian Cinema. In 2008, a poll conducted by CNN-IBN listed Vishnuvardhan as the most popular star in the Kannada film industry.
Jaggesh, born on 17 March 1963, is an Indian politician, actor, director and producer, who works in the Kannada film industry. He is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka since 2022 and the spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.
Srinivasa Sarja, better known by his stage name Arjun Sarja or simply Arjun, is an Indian actor, producer, and director who works predominantly in Tamil cinema in addition to Telugu and Kannada films and a few Malayalam and Hindi films. Gilli is a 2009 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed by Raghav Loki. The film, a remake of the 2004 Tamil-Telugu bilingual film 7G Rainbow Colony, directed by Selvaraghavan, marks the acting debut of actor Jaggesh's sons Gururaj and Yethiraj and actress Rakul Preet Singh, who enact the lead roles, originally played by Ravi Krishna, Suman Setty and Sonia Agarwal, whilst Sudha Belavadi, Srinivas and Veena Venkatesh play supporting roles. The film, with music scored by noted Tamil composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography handled by Mungaru Male fame Krishna, was launched in February 2009 and released on 16 October 2009, coinciding with Diwali.
Tharle Nan Maga is a 1992 Indian Kannada-language comedy drama film written and directed by Upendra in his directorial debut, which stars Jaggesh and Anjali Sudhakar in lead roles, who also made their debuts in lead roles with the film. The film was reportedly based loosely on Jean-Paul Sartre's short story Erostasus. Upendra also made a cameo appearance in the film.
Manjunatha BA, LLB is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language comedy film written and directed by actor-turned-director Mohan Shankar. The film stars Jaggesh and Reema Vohra in the lead roles. The film is a remake of 2007 Malayalam film Hallo which itself was based on the 2004 movie Cellular.
Guru is a 2012 Indian Kannada-language action film directed by Jaggesh. The film starred his sons Gururaj and Yathiraj as male leads and Rashmi Gautham as the female lead. The film was Jaggesh's first film as a director. It is a remake of the Tamil-language film Mouna Guru.
Sharan is an Indian actor and an occasional playback singer and film producer who works in Kannada cinema. He made his acting debut in the mid-1990s and appeared mostly in comedy roles and small supporting roles. However, he earned much recognition during the late 2000s and made his lead role for his 100th film Rambo and since then featuring as the lead actor in comedy films.
Rakshit Shetty is an Indian actor and filmmaker working predominantly in Kannada cinema. He is the recipient of one National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards South, two Karnataka State Film Awards and five SIIMA Awards. He debuted with the film Namm Areal Ond Dina (2010) and got his breakthrough in the cult Blockbuster Ulidavaru Kandanthe (2014) and further established himself as a lead actor in Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu (2015), Kirik Party (2016), Avane Srimannarayana (2019), 777 Charlie (2021), and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A (2023), with 777 Charlie becoming the highest-grossing film of his career.
Shiva, known by his screen name Sathish Ninasam, is an Indian actor who appears in Kannada films. Having made his film debut with Madesha (2008), Sathish appeared in small but significant roles in films like Manasaare (2009), Pancharangi (2010), Lifeu Ishtene (2011) and Anna Bond (2012). He shot to fame after his performance in Drama (2012). Sathish marked his debut as a hero in his 2013 film Lucia, which received critical acclaim nationally and internationally. His performance received rave reviews all over India.
Vaastu Prakaara is a 2015 Indian Kannada language satirical comedy film directed by Yogaraj Bhat starring Rakshit Shetty, Jaggesh, Aishani Shetty and Parul Yadav. The supporting cast features Anant Nag, Sudha Rani, T. N. Seetharam and Sudha Belawadi. The film deals in the belief of Indians in astrology and superstition and how it is being blindly followed and overlooked over science.
Mass Leader is a 2017 Indian Kannada-language action thriller film written and directed by Narasimha, and produced jointly by Tarun Shivappa and Hardik Gowda. It features Shiva Rajkumar, Pranitha Subhash and Vamsi Krishna in the lead roles whilst Vijay Raghavendra, Yogesh, Gururaj Jaggesh, Sharmiela Mandre, Ashika Ranganath and Parinitha Kitty in key supporting roles. The soundtrack and score for the film is composed by Veer Samarth and the cinematography is by Guru Prashant Rai.
Brihaspathi is a 2018 Indian Kannada-language comedy drama film directed by Nanda Kishore and produced by Rockline Venkatesh under his home banner. The film stars Manoranjan Ravichandran, Mishti Chakraborthy, while Saikumar, Kanika Mann, Sithara, Sadhu Kokila, Avinash and Taarak Ponannappa play supporting roles.
Kataka is a 2017 Kannada horror film, written and directed by Ravi Basrur. The film marks Basrur's directing debut, which is based on a number of true incidents that occurred in the coastal region of Karnataka.
Gara is a 2019 Indian Kannada-language drama film directed by Murali Krishna and starring Rahman, Avantika and Pradeep Aryan. The story is based on R. K. Narayan's short story An Astrologer's Day.
