Gururaj Gantihole is an Indian politician as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party [1] [2] from Byndoor Assembly Constituency since May 2023 after he defeated Indian National Congress's candidate K Gopala Poojary by 16,153 votes contesting the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. Gururaj Gantihole was born to Mahabala Shetty and Prema Shetty in Gantihole Bijoor,Karnataka. In 2008,he completed his master's degree in Mass Communication Journalism at Mysore Open University. [5] [6]
He has worked for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for almost 10 years, [7] During the years 2013 to 2015 he worked as vice president for Bharatiya Janata Party, [8] Udupi. BJP [9] has given the ticket to Gururaj Gantihole from the Byndoor constituency. [10] [11] He won the 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election and currently serving as a Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly of Byndoor Region.

He was born in Kalmady,Byndoor in August of 1959 to a poor farmer family. After graduation Gopala Poojary moved to Mumbai to find work. On his return to Karnataka,Gopala Poojary started his restaurant business in 1984. Introduced to politics through his political Godfather S Bangarappa. Gopala Poojary contests election for the first time as a member of the KCP in 1994 garnering 10436 votes. Gopala Poojary contests the 1996 by election as an INC candidate for the first time winning the election by 8000 votes. Gopala Poojary goes on to win the next two elections registering a hattrick of wins in 1996,1999 and 2004. He tasted defeat for the first time in 2008. He later went on to hold the Udupi District President Post. Gopala Poojary contests election once again in 2013 and wins by a margin of 31000 votes. He is defeated in the election of 2018. Gopala Poojary is considered to be a very senior leader in Udupi and is regarded as "Badavara Bandu" and lauded for being a simple politician in his hometown Byndoor.

The 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election was held on 12 May 2018 in 222 constituencies to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The election was postponed in Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar,following the death of the MLA B. N. Vijaya Kumar and a voter fraud scandal respectively till 28 May. The election saw a voter turnout of 72.13 per cent,the highest in Karnataka since several decades. The counting of votes took place on 15 May 2018.

Chandrakant Bellad is the former member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly and an Indian Politician. He first contested 1983 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections as a Janata Party candidate from Dharwad Assembly constituency and lost by a wafer thin margin of 132 votes against S. R. Morey of Indian National Congress. Later he defeated the same candidate and emerged victorious in 1985 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He unsuccessfully contested against then 3-time Indian National Congress MP D. K. Naikar from Dharwad North Lok Sabha constituency during 1991 Indian general elections. Despite not having any BJP MLA from then Dharwad district,Chandrakant Bellad gave a close fight by getting 29% votes which was just 22,209 less than D. K. Naikar. He was elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1994 and 1999. He also represented Hubli-Dharwad West from 2008 to 2013. He was the President of Border Area Development Authority from 2008 to 2013. He announced retirement from active politics before 2013 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections.
