Gustavo Raul "Gus" Sorola III (born February 22, 1978) is an American actor and podcast host, known for his work with Rooster Teeth. [1] [2]

Early life

Sorola was born in Austin, and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas, near the Mexico–United States border. [3] After choosing to drop out from Rice University, he started working at a tech support company, teleNetwork, where he met Rooster Teeth co-founders Burnie Burns and Geoff Ramsey. [4]

Career

Sorola is a founding member of Rooster Teeth Productions. [3] [5] He is still currently employed at the company and appears in many of their productions. Since 2003, he has voiced the character of Richard Simmons in the machinima series Red vs. Blue . [6] He was also a voice actor in The Strangerhood from 2004 to 2006. [7] His live-action credits include Rooster Teeth Shorts, which started in 2009, and Immersion, which started in 2010. He also starred in three RT Docs: Unconventional, Why We're Here, and Common Ground. [8] [9] [10]

Sorola has also managed and hosted the Rooster Teeth Podcast [11] (formerly known as the Drunk Tank [12] ) since 2008. On the podcast, Sorola shares many anecdotes about his life, including his childhood and early career. He was also part of several other podcasts such as The Patch, [13] Let Me Clarify, [14] and Heroes & Halfwits. [15] Since March 2020 he has co-hosted the award-winning podcast Black Box Down. [16] [17] Sorola was nominated for Host of the Year at the 2022 Quill Podcast Awards for his work on Black Box Down. [18] In May 2022 he began co-hosting the ANMA podcast. Personal life

Sorola is married to Esther Sorola, and they live in Austin, Texas with their dog, Oswald. Their previous dog, Benjamin, died on May 2, 2021. [20] He is an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church and has performed several marriages for his friends and colleagues. A pragmatic, straightforward person, Sorola describes himself as asocial[ citation needed ] and tries to avoid interactions with others.

A self-proclaimed fan of Bungie "since Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete ", Sorola was instrumental in making Rooster Teeth fans of Halo , the series in which Red vs. Blue is made, as when he, Burns, Ramsey and Matt Hullum visited E3 2001, Sorola made them visit the Bungie booth, featuring a Halo: Combat Evolved demo. <i>Red vs. Blue</i> American comic science fiction web series produced by Rooster Teeth

Red vs. Blue, often abbreviated as RvB, is an American web series created by Burnie Burns with his production company Rooster Teeth. The show is based on the setting of the military science fiction first-person shooter series and media franchise Halo. It is distributed through Rooster Teeth's website, as well as on DVD, Blu-ray, and formerly on the El Rey Network and Netflix. Discovery Global Streaming & Interactive Entertainment which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery.

<i>The Strangerhood</i>

The Strangerhood is a comedy series created by Rooster Teeth Productions. The series is produced primarily by using the machinima technique of synchronizing video footage from video game to pre-recorded dialogue and other audio. The animation is created using the video game The Sims 2 as a parody of sitcoms and reality television. The series details the lives of eight "assorted stereotypes" who wake up living in a neighborhood called Strangerhood Lane, with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there.

It is the successor to the 2014 series Ten Little Roosters, acting as an spy thriller that pits international assassins against each other. It premiered on Rooster Teeth's website on January 16, 2017.

Let's Play Live is a touring Let's Play show featuring video games and internet personalities. Let's Play Live grew out of Rooster Teeth's gaming division, Achievement Hunter, and is now a collaboration with multiple channels including members of the Let's Play family: Funhaus, ScrewAttack, Kinda Funny, Cow Chop and The Creatures.
