Gut Me Like an Animal is the debut extended play (EP) by English singer-songwriter duo Ider, released on 31 March 2017 through Aesop. This was the band's only release with Aesop.

Background

Having already released material under the moniker Lily and Meg, Gut Me Like an Animal was Markwick and Somerville's first EP release as Ider. Prior to this EP, they had released four standalone singles as Ider throughout 2016. Musically, Gut Me Like an Animal is a synth pop record, [1] [2] and thematically, it has been described as an exploration of love and selfishness. [3]

The EP was preceded by the single "Face On", released on 14 February 2017. [4] [5] "Nevermind" served as a promotional single with a music video at the time of the EP's release. [6]

Massive Ego was a British darkwave musical group formed in 1996 by singer Marc Massive and Andy J Thirwall. The band has changed its sound and image since its formation. The original releases being mostly covers in a Eurodance, Hi-NRG style. Massive and Thirwall later parted ways, and Massive searched for a new musical direction for the band. Collaborations with Empire State Human and Lia Organa & Electric Prince were the start of a darker sound for the band. The band joined alternative German label Out of Line Music in 2015 with the line-up; Marc Massive, Oliver Frost, Lloyd Price and Scot Collins. Their debut album for Out of Line was released on 17 February 2017. The current themes of the songs centre around the darker side of life, depression and anxiety, death, suicide, love, sex and vampirism.

Their music style combines features of various musical genres, and it has been described as "post-genre" or "cross-genre". Formed in 2016 after its members met at Falmouth University, Ider has released a number of singles, and released their debut EP, Gut Me Like an Animal, in 2017. Their first full-length album, Emotional Education, was released two years later in 2019.
