Gandhi held the seat till the 2019 election when he was defeated by a margin of 55,000 votes by the BJP's Smriti Irani. Irani was defeated in 2024 by a margin of over 1.67 lakh votes by Kishori Lal Sharma of the Indian National Congress.

Ram Subhag Singh was an Indian politician who was a member of the Indian National Congress. After the split in the Congress party in 1969, he stayed with the Indian National Congress (Organisation). He was first leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha in 1969. He participated in the Indian independence movement. He was a cabinet minister in the Union Government led by the Congress party.
