Batley is a market and mill town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, England. Batley lies south-west of Leeds, north-west of Wakefield and Dewsbury, south-east of Bradford and north-east of Huddersfield. Batley is part of the Heavy Woollen District. In 2011 the population of Batley including Hanging Heaton, Staincliffe, Carlinghow, Birstall, Birstall Smithies, Copley Hill and Howden Clough was 48,730.

Broadcasting music, news, sport and health information to staff and patients, it's Hull City live commentaries were partially popular beyond it's usual audiences, alongside BBC Radio Humberside it was the only station broadcasting these games live. Former presenters (volunteers) include Jon Culshaw a popular comedian and James Hoggarth who later joined BBC Radio Humberside and more recently became their music editor. The station has been at more than one site during it's history but for many years was based on Hull Royal Infirmary shared by flats for nurses and doctors upstairs, with short notice of only a few weeks in 2021 the building was pulled down, as of February 2022 the station is no longer broadcasting and is still seaking a new space to move to which so far the NHS haven't got available partially due to COVID.
