Maulana Habibur Rahman Nomani (21 August 1926 - 17 August 2005) was an Indian politician from Uttar Pradesh and belongs to the Indian National Congress.

Political career

He served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1969 to 1974, member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 1975 to 80, Minister of State and Deputy Minister of Transport in the Government of Uttar Pradesh from 1970 to 1972 and again from 1976 to 1977. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1993 and served till 1999. Maulana Nomani was General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee from 1973 to 1975. He died on 17 August 2005 at his hometown.

Shibli Nomani

Shibli Nomani was an Islamic scholar from the Indian subcontinent during the British Raj. He was born at Bindwal in Azamgarh district of present-day Uttar Pradesh. He is known for the founding of the Shibli National College in 1883 and the Darul Mussanifin in Azamgarh. Nomani was a scholar in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Urdu. He was also a poet. He collected much material on the life of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad but could write only first two volumes of the planned work the Sirat-un-Nabi. His disciple, Sulaiman Nadvi, made use of this material and added to it and also wrote remaining five volumes of the work, the Sirat-un-Nabi after the death of his mentor.

Hafiz Mohamad Ibrahim

Mohammad Farooq Chishti was a freedom fighter and politician from India. He was an Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the First Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.
