In his review for Allmusic, Sean Westergaard said " this isn't really a jazz album. It's a rock album, but they use a horn player instead of a singer. Despite what some jazz purists may say, this doesn't make the music any less interesting or less valuable. In fact, if it's taken at face value, without expectations, it's a great album". [2] On AllAboutJazz John Kelman stated "Habyor may not make fans of purist jazz fans, but with singable melodies over mostly assertive rhythms, he creates engaging music that may draw more rock-oriented listeners over to the "dark side"." [3] In JazzTimes, Bill Milkowski observed "Black has crafted a distinctive collection that goes for the simplicity of songs and the power of a unified band sound". [4]

JazzTimes is an American magazine devoted to jazz. Published 10 times a year, it was founded in Washington, D.C. in 1970 by Ira Davidson Sabin (1928–2018) as a newsletter called Radio Free Jazz. Sabine founded Radio Free Jazz to complement his Washington, D.C. record store that he founded in 1962. As a newsletter, it informed consumers of the latest jazz releases and provided jazz broadcasters with news and backstories related to playlists.

Drum kit collection of drums and other percussion instruments

A drum kit — also called a drum set, trap set, or simply drums — is a collection of drums and other percussion instruments, typically cymbals, which are set up on stands to be played by a single player, with drumsticks held in both hands, and the feet operating pedals that control the hi-hat cymbal and the beater for the bass drum. A drum kit consists of a mix of drums and idiophones – most significantly cymbals, but can also include the woodblock and cowbell. In the 2000s, some kits also include electronic instruments. Also, both hybrid and entirely electronic kits are used.

Wurlitzer electric piano

The Wurlitzer electronic piano, commonly called the Wurlitzer electric piano is an electric piano manufactured and marketed by Wurlitzer from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s. The sound is generated by striking a metal reed with a hammer, which induces an electric current in a pickup; although conceptually similar to the Rhodes piano, the sound is different.

Melodica free-reed instrument

The melodica is a free-reed instrument similar to the pump organ and harmonica. It has a musical keyboard on top, and is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece that fits into a hole in the side of the instrument. Pressing a key opens a hole, allowing air to flow through a reed. The keyboard covers usually two or three octaves. Melodicas are small, light, and portable. They are popular in music education, especially in Asia.
