Hampton High School is a public high school located in Hampton, Georgia, United States. During the 19th Century Hampton was served by its own public high school, with more than 100 students attending in 1886. [3] The school continued in existence throughout the 20th Century.

Construction of a new Hampton High School broke ground on July 9, 2012, and became the 10th high school in Henry County, Georgia. [4]

It was forced to close in August 2004 due to reduced federal and state funding. All of its displays were sold or auctioned on January 15, 2005. Some of the assets, such as the Challenger Learning Center, were transferred to Fernbank Science Center, also in Atlanta.

The first Atlanta Confederate Soldiers' Home was built in 1890 with the support of Henry W. Grady at a cost of $45,000. Grady proposed the idea first in 1889, and began to raise funds through "subscriptions". Due to lack of funds the home did not open until 1900. It stood at 410 E. United Avenue on the south edge of the Ormewood Park neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. In September, 1901 it burned down, shortly after it was occupied. and was rebuilt in 1902 at the same location with support from the Inman family.

<i>Free Nelson Mandela</i> (sculpture)

Free Nelson Mandela is a sculpture in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, created by David Hammons in 1987. Alternatively referred to as a monument, the piece was originally created as a statement demanding the liberation of the imprisoned South African activist, Nelson Mandela. The official title is Nelson Mandela Must Be Free to Lead His People and South Africa to Peace and Prosperity. However, it is most frequently called just Free Nelson Mandela, because those words are carved in the face of the granite rock that is the bottom portion of the sculpture.

Girls' High School was one of seven schools opened in 1872 as part of the original public school system in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Commercial High School was founded by Corinne Stanton Williams Douglas in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It began as a department of Girls High School in 1889 for girls who wanted to learn skills they could use in Atlanta's burgeoning business community. Students studied bookkeeping and typing, in addition to mathematics and history courses. The school soon expanded into new space, a four-story brick building at 138 Pryor Street in downtown Atlanta.
