The Seven Summits are the highest mountains on each of the seven traditional continents. On 30 April 1985,Richard Bass became the first climber to reach the summit of all seven.
Reinhold Andreas Messner is an Italian climber,explorer,and author from the German-speaking province of South Tyrol. He made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest and,along with Peter Habeler,the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen. He was the first person to climb all 14 eight-thousanders,doing so without supplementary oxygen. Messner was the first to cross Antarctica and Greenland with neither snowmobiles nor dog sleds and also crossed the Gobi Desert alone. He is widely considered to be the greatest mountaineer of all time.
The eight-thousanders are the 14 mountains recognized by the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) as being more than 8,000 metres (26,247 ft) in height above sea level,and sufficiently independent of neighbouring peaks. There is no precise definition of the criteria used to assess independence,and at times,the UIAA has considered whether the list should be expanded to 20 mountain peaks by including the major satellite peaks of eight-thousanders. All of the eight-thousanders are located in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges in Asia,and their summits lie in an altitude known as the death zone.
Alan Hinkes OBE is an English Himalayan high-altitude mountaineer from Northallerton in North Yorkshire. He is the first British mountaineer to claim all 14 Himalayan eight-thousanders,which he did on 30 May 2005.
Edmund Viesturs is an American high-altitude mountaineer,corporate speaker,and well known author in the mountain climbing community. He was the first American to climb all 14 of the eight-thousander mountains,and the 5th person to do so without supplemental oxygen. Along with Apa Sherpa,he has summitted eight-thousanders on 21 occasions,including Mount Everest seven times.
Park Young-seok was a South Korean mountaineer.
João JoséSilva Abranches Garcia,is a leading mountaineer in Portugal. His main professional activities are as organizer and guide in mountaineering expeditions. On 18 May 1999 he became the first Portuguese man to reach the summit of Mount Everest,without the use of supplementary oxygen. Three years later,in 2002,he published a book,A Mais Alta Solidão(The Highest Loneliness),in which he describes his experiences in mountain climbing,namely his 1999 expedition to Everest,where he endured bitter adversities. Nevertheless,João Garcia continued to climb and on the 17th April 2010,he summited Annapurna without the aid of supplemental oxygen,becoming the 10th man of all time to climb all 14 eight-thousanders without bottled oxygen or Sherpas.

Elizabeth Hawley was an American journalist,author,and chronicler of Himalayan mountaineering expeditions. Hawley's The Himalayan Database became the unofficial record for climbs in the Nepalese Himalaya. She was also the honorary consul in Nepal for New Zealand.

Oh Eun-sun is a South Korean mountaineer. She was the first Korean woman to climb the Seven Summits. On April 27,2010,she reached the summit of Annapurna;upon doing so,she claimed to have climbed all fourteen eight-thousanders,which would have made her the first woman to achieve this feat. However,her claim to have ascended Kangchenjunga was disputed by multiple experts. Oh later admitted that she had stopped a few hundred meters before the summit of Kangchenjunga,and so the Korean Alpine Federation ruled that she had not summited. The mountaineering site ExplorersWeb officially considers the Basque Edurne Pasaban as the first woman to have successfully climbed all fourteen peaks.
Um Hong-gil is a South Korean mountaineer.
Ralf Dujmovits is a German mountaineer. In May 2009 he became the 16th person,and the first German,to climb the 14 eight-thousanders.
The Himalayas is a 2015 South Korean adventure drama film directed by Lee Seok-hoon. The film is based on Um Hong-gil's real life,primarily focusing on his mentorship of two other climbers who later died during an ascent.

Kang Dong-suk is a yachtsman and adventurer from South Korea.
Kim Chang-ho,was a South Korean mountaineer,and at the time of his death in 2018,was considered to be Korea's most prolific alpine and Himalayan climber,noted for his bold and lightweight alpine style ascents.
Park Moo-taek,also spelled Park Mu-taek,Park Muh-taek,was a South Korean mountaineer. Park Moo-taek summitted eight-thousanders five times,and died after his second successful summit of Mount Everest. During his lifetime,he held the Guinness World Record for being the fastest man to climb the world's three highest mountains with supplementary oxygen. Park Moo-taek climbed Kangchenjunga on 19 May 2000,K2 on 31 July 2000 and Everest on 16 May 2002,completing the feat in 1 year 362 days. In 2022,the record was broken by Nirmal Purja.
