The third Asian Beach Games were held in Haiyang, China in 2012.

The qualification process for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup football competition began in March 2003. Out of the 45 AFC members, only Cambodia and the Philippines failed to enter for the tournament. Both China, the hosts and Japan, the reigning champions automatically qualified for the finals. The lowest ranked 20 teams were placed in 6 preliminary qualifying groups of 3 and one group of 2, with the group winners joining the remaining 21 teams in 7 groups of 4. The top two of each of these groups qualified for the finals in China.

The AFC U-17 Championship 2004 Qualification was held from October 11 through 15, 2003. The drawing for its matchups was conducted on July 18, 2003, at the AFC office in Kuala Lumpur.

The Asian Football Confederation's Pre-Olympic Tournament was held from 3 April 1999 to 13 November 1999. Thirty-five teams entered the qualification for the three allocated spots for the 2000 Summer Olympics Football tournament in Sydney.

Athletics at the 2014 Asian Games was held in Incheon, South Korea from 27 September to 3 October 2014. A total of 47 events were contested, 24 by men and 23 by women - matching the Olympic athletics programme. Uzbekistan is one of the most successful teams in Asia, and the most successful team in Central Asia, having qualified for every AFC Asian Cup since the fall of the Soviet Union. With a rich history of competing in the tournament, Uzbekistan is often regarded as a top team and a rising contender for the Asian Cup title. Their best performance was a fourth place finish in the 2011 tournament.

The 2020 Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship would have been the 17th edition of the Asian Men's Junior Handball Championship, a biannual championship in handball organised by the Asian Handball Federation (AHF).
