Hangnail is a pop punk band from Kenosha, Wisconsin, formed in 1993.

History

Hangnail consists of Mike Middleton (lead vocals and bass guitar), Nick Radovanovic (lead guitar and backing vocals), Matt Wendt (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), and Jacob Dosemagen (drums). The band has a diverse mix of musical influences which has helped to form their unique sound characterized by harmony laden pop melodies and prolific guitar work with an energetic feel.  Their songs focus on life from a Christian perspective, which is the band's foundation.

The band formed as teenagers when Mike met Nick and Jacob, who were already making music together. Matt joined the band shortly thereafter, and this has been the lineup ever since. Hangnail produced its own music and played out regionally through high school. Shortly after graduation, the band started building a fan base and received the opportunity to play on the new band showcase stage at Cornerstone Music Festival in the summer of 1998.  Hangnail received interest from a few different record labels and finally agreed to sign with BEC Recordings, an imprint of Tooth and Nail Records.

Hangnail independently recorded their self-titled album and BEC purchased and released that album in the fall of 1999.  Beginning in 2000, the band began 3 years of an intense tour schedule.  During that time the band wrote and recorded two other full-length albums: “Facing Changes” (2001) and “Transparent” (2003) which were released on Tooth and Nail Records.  They also recorded an acoustic EP that was released in 2001 and a live album which was recorded in 2002, but was not released until 2016 when the band received permission to make it available independently.

Hangnail disbanded in 2003 but have played a few live shows since. The band began working on new material in 2020.

Style

Hangnail's punk-pop style combined rhythms from heavy metal and melodic punk rock with pop music flourishes. According to Allmusic, this style was mixed with "praise-oriented lyrics to come up with a unique sound that rocks wildly with metal riffs and power chords." [1] The band's musical influences varied. According to Mike Middleton, when Hangnail first started the members liked bands such as Green Day and Weezer. [2] Other early influences include MxPx. According to Middleton, the band broadened its listening tastes to a wide variety of genres ranging from classical to rock and roll. [2]

The Dingees are a multi-genre band formed in the summer of 1996, from Orange County, California.

The Deluxtone Rockets is an American band from Muskegon, Michigan. It began as a punk band, but by the time of signing to Tooth & Nail Records it had evolved into a swing revival outfit.

It was released to coincide with the band's final tour, as they had announced that they would break up following tours of the United States and Canada that Spring. The album includes tracks from all three of the band's full-length studio albums: The Moon is Down (2001), How to Start a Fire (2003), and Hide Nothing (2004). As such it includes all three of the band's lead vocalists: Chris Carrabba, Jason Gleason, and Jon Bunch. Its title is taken from a lyric in the song "Pictures of Shorelines."

Plankeye was an American Christian alternative rock band and one of Tooth & Nail Records' greatest successes during the 1990s and early 2000s. Plankeye's style could be defined as melodic post-grunge combined with indie and alternative elements. Their first few albums also incorporated a fair amount of punk rock elements, but this aspect faded when original singer Scott Silletta left the band.

Run Kid Run is a Christian pop/rock band from Carmi, Illinois and Morganfield, Kentucky, formed in 2006. Their debut album This Is Who We Are, was released on May 18, 2006 through Tooth & Nail Records. All of the members, except Paul Stewart, were originally from punk rock band Side Walk Slam on Tooth & Nail Records. The video for the song "We've Only Just Begun" was featured on the American Eagle music video store soundtrack after its release. The band's second album titled Love at the Core was released on April 29, 2008. Both albums were produced by James Paul Wisner. The song "Freedom" become a hit song on the Christian radio station Air 1. Their recent work in the studio with Mark Lee Townsend and Matt Thiessen brought forth Patterns, released November 15, 2011.

Capital Lights was an American Christian pop rock band from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Formed in 2002 as Aftereight, the band changed its name after signing to Tooth & Nail Records in 2008. The group initially disbanded in 2009, but reunited in late 2010 until 2012.

Blenderhead was an American punk rock band signed to Tooth & Nail Records. They released three albums from 1992 to 2001. The band reunited for guitarist Tyler Vander Ploeg's 40th birthday in March 2016.

And Then There Were None is an American rock and metal band from Salem, New Hampshire. They recorded an independent album before releasing their label debut, Who Speaks for Planet Earth?, on Tooth & Nail Records in 2009. The latter album made Billboard's Christian Albums chart.

Rocky Loves Emily is an American pop rock band formed in Sterling Heights, Michigan in 2008. As of mid-2012, their lineup consists of vocalist Brandon Ellis, drummer Pete Kalinowski, guitarists Sean Kick and Andrew Stevens, and bassist Stephen Hull. They released an independent EP, The What What What EP, before signing to Tooth & Nail Records and releasing a second EP, American Dream EP and a debut full-length, Secrets Don't Make Friends, which was produced by Matt Grabe and released on April 24, 2012.

The Blamed is an American Christian hardcore punk band currently based out of Chicago. During their tenure they have played primarily hardcore punk, pop punk, punk rock, and emo music with some influences from metal as well. They originally are from California having relocated to Illinois after guitarist Bryan Gray moved to Chicago. The band originally formed in 1994 and disbanded in 2003. Members during this era of the band included Bryan Gray, Christopher Wiitala, Trevor Wiitala, Jeff Locke, Jim Chaffin, John Hansen, and Matt Switaj. They have released three albums, with Tooth & Nail Records, 21 in 1994, Frail in 1996, and Give Us Barabbas in 2002. The band released four albums, with Grrr Records, ...Again in 1998, Forever in 1999, Germany in 2000, and Isolated Incident in 2001. The band reformed in the summer of 2016 to play a one-off set at Audio Feed music festival. This has since lead to the band reforming and recording a split EP with the Chicago hardcore band The Satire, a band sharing multiple members with the Blamed. The split EP was released in November 2018 through Indivision Music.
