Hannibal High School is a public high school located in Hannibal, Missouri. HHS serves grades 9 through 12 and is the only high school in Hannibal School District #60.

Contents

History

The first public high school in Hannibal was established in 1866. [3] A new building was constructed in 1934; a number of wood doors to classrooms were replaced in late 2018. [4] HVAC units were added in mid 2019. [5]

Athletics

HHS athletic teams are nicknamed the Pirates and compete in the North Central Missouri Conference. [6] The school has won two state championships, taking the 1930 Class B boys track and field title as well as the 1990 Class 3A/4A softball championship. [7] In 2008, HHS acquired turf field material from the St. Louis Rams. [8]

Performing arts

Hannibal has a competitive show choir, "River City Revue". [9]

Lindell Shumake is a Republican former member of the Missouri House of Representatives. Shumake first represented the 6th District, encompassing all or portions of Marion and Ralls counties in northeast Missouri. In November 2012, he was elected to serve the newly designated 5th Missouri House district.

Tom Shively is a Democratic member of the Missouri House of Representatives. He represents the 8th District, encompassing all or portions of Linn, Macon, Shelby and Sullivan counties. Due to Missouri House redistricting Shively ran for the newly created Missouri House 5th district in November, 2012. He lost to Republican Lindell Shumake, who until redistricting had represented the Missouri House 6th district. Shively will continue to represent the 8th district until January, 2013.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hannibal Hoots</span>

The Hannibal Hoots were a collegiate summer league baseball team in the United States Prospect League. The team played two seasons in the league, but only one of those seasons saw them use Hannibal as its home; flooding along the Mississippi River caused Bear Creek, which flows into the river and runs alongside the Hoots' home stadium, to flood the stadium. As a result, the Hoots played their 2019 home schedule in nearby Quincy, Illinois at the home stadium of the Quincy Gems. The Hoots formed in late 2017 and were an expansion franchise for the 2018 season. The Hoots and other collegiate summer leagues and teams exist to give top college players professional-like experience without affecting NCAA eligibility.

Harrisonville High School is a public high school located in Harrisonville, Missouri. It serves students in grades 9 through 12 and is the only high school in the Harrisonville R-IX School District.
