The Harbin Jewish Research Center is located in Harbin (China) and was founded in April 2000 by the Heilongjiang Academy of Social Sciences. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

In August 2004, Professor Li Shuxiao, deputy director, hosted a conference along with the Association of Former Jewish Residents of China in Israel and the Israel-China Friendship Society, featuring Chinese academics along with international speakers. Professor Li , worked to raise awareness of Jewish people living in Harbin, whereas until then coverage was focused on Kaifeng and Shanghai. [6]

In 2003, the history and culture of the Jews of Harbin was approved as a new branch of science study at a provincial level. Its major research areas cover the following aspects: development and use of the relics and sites of Harbin, promoting the process of reform and opening up of Heilongjiang and attracting foreign funds.

The Harbin Jewish Research Center built models of two synagogues, the Central Synagogue, built in 1908, and the New Synagogue, built in 1921, which were sent to Beth Hatefutsoth in Tel Aviv. [7]

The Harbin Jewish Research Center has an exhibition of over 400 photographs detailing the history of the Jewish people in Harbin. [6]

In 2002, Harbin Jewish Research Center held the exhibit "Jews in Harbin" attracting 50,000 visitors. [8]
