Harper Watters is an American ballet dancer who is a first soloist with the Houston Ballet and the first black queer soloist in the company's history.
Watters was born in Atlanta, Georgia. [1] He was adopted as an infant by Jan Alberghene, an English professor, and the Democratic politician David H. Watters, who has served in both the New Hampshire Senate and the New Hampshire House of Representatives. [1] His grandfather, Franklin Benjamin Watters, was a cardiologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Newington, Connecticut and a professor at the University of Connecticut Medical Dental School. Watters is a cousin of conservative political commentator Jesse Watters. [2]
Watters grew up in Dover, New Hampshire, and studied at Walnut Hill School, a boarding school in Natick, Massachusetts. [1] [3]
Watters joined the Houston Ballet as an apprentice in 2011. [4] He joined the corps de ballet in 2012 and was promoted to demi soloist in 2016. [4] Watters was promoted as a soloist in 2017 and, in 2021, was promoted to first soloist. [3] [5] He is the first black, queer soloist at Houston Ballet. [6] He has performed in various ballets with the company, including Stanton Welch’s The Nutcracker and La Bayadère , Ben Stevenson's The Nutcracker, Giselle , Romeo and Juliet , and Don Quixote , George Balanchine's Theme and Variations , Jewels , and Ballet Imperial . American Ballet Theatre (ABT) is a classical ballet company based in New York City. Founded in 1939 by Lucia Chase and Richard Pleasant. Through 2019, it had an annual eight-week season at the Metropolitan Opera House in the spring and a shorter season at the David H. Koch Theater in the fall; the company tours around the world the rest of the year. Lauren Anderson is an American ballet dancer and a former principal dancer with the Houston Ballet. In 1990, she was one of the first African-American ballerinas to become a principal for a major dance company, an important milestone in American ballet. She appeared in many ballets such as Don Quixote, Cleopatra, and The Nutcracker. She retired from the Houston Ballet in 2006 and retired from dance altogether in 2009. In 2016, Anderson had her pointe shoes from her final performance placed in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Yuriko Kajiya is a Japanese ballet dancer who currently performs as a principal dancer with Houston Ballet. Prior to joining Houston Ballet, she danced as a soloist with American Ballet Theatre for seven years.

Kathryn Elizabeth Morgan is an American ballet dancer. She joined New York City Ballet in 2006 and was promoted to the rank of soloist in 2009. Throughout her recovery, Morgan taught ballet and performed as a guest artist. From 2019 to 2020, she was a soloist at Miami City Ballet.

Chyrstyn Mariah Fentroy is an American ballet dancer. She currently dances as a principal with the Boston Ballet and is a former principal dancer at Dance Theatre of Harlem. When Fentroy joined Boston Ballet in 2017, she was the first African-American female dancer to join the company in a decade.
Nikisha Fogo is a Swedish ballet dancer who is currently a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet and previously a principal at the Vienna State Ballet.
Unity Sickles Phelan is an American ballet dancer. She joined the New York City Ballet in 2013 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2021. Outside of the company, she had also danced in the films John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020).
