Harry Bohan

Father Harry Bohan is an Irish Catholic priest, sociologist, and former manager of the Clare county hurling team.

The son of Michael Bohan, a Garda Síochána officer, and Anne Fitzgerald, who ran a pub, [1] Bohan grew up in Feakle, County Clare. He was educated at St Flannan's College in Ennis and studied for the priesthood at Maynooth College. Bohan went on to study sociology in Cardiff, and obtained an MA from the University of Wales. [2] Bohan is now the parish priest in Sixmilebridge, in County Clare.

In the 1970s, Bohan was manager of the Clare senior hurling team which won two National Hurling League titles, and more recently[ when? ] served as a selector for manager Anthony Daly. In 2006 he was recognised for his services to hurling by a special award. [3]

A campaigner for Rural Ireland, he set up the Rural Resource Centre, and in 1998 he set up the Ceilfin Centre. [4]

His brother Seamus is landlord of the family pub in Feakle.[ citation needed ]

His nephew Mick is a football coach. [5] [6]

A versatile player who lined out in no less than eight different positions, McCarthy made his name as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the most skilful and stylish players of his generation and as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

It is contested by the top-ranking senior hurling clubs in Clare, Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Clare hurling.

Saint Flannan's College is an Irish co-educational secondary school located in Ennis, County Clare, which takes its name from the 7th century patron saint of the Dál gCais. Formerly an all-boys boarding school, the first girls class was entered in 2002 and in 2005 the boarding school was closed. In 2003 an extension which added over 20 new rooms to the college was completed. A measure of the expansion that has taken place over the past thirty years is that in 1962, there were some 370 pupils, 140 of whom were day boys. Only 37 teachers were in attendance. By 2004, enrollment had risen to more than 1,001 students. Staff numbers had risen to 60. In September 2002, co-ed classes were introduced in First Year. In September 2003, a new wing containing extensive new facilities was opened. In the 2010–11 school year there were 1,206 students.

Mick Bohan is a Gaelic football coach who is working with Dublin GAA. He has worked with the Clare GAA footballers before in the past as well.
