Harshvardhan Shahajirao Patil (born 21 August 1963), is an Indian politician from Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) from Indapur, near Pune in Maharashtra. He quit Indian National Congress in September 2019 after a long association with it. [1] [2]
He was one of the few ministers who was presiding as a minister for four consecutive terms (1995-2014) in Government of Maharashtra. He has shouldered responsibilities of Cooperative Ministry and currently Legislative Affairs. He is known for cordial relations with all party members. He was a minister from 1995 to 2014.
He was elected MLA as an independent in 1995, 1999, 2004. In 2009 he was elected MLA as an Indian National Congress candidate. He was appointed co-operation and parliamentary affairs minister in Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan's ministry. There are tussles seen for control over Indapur between Nationalist Congress Party and Indian National Congress under his leadership. [3] [4] [5]
In August 2014, he was attacked by few activists who hurled ink at him injuring his left eye. He was immediately taken to Baramati for primarily treatment. A few months later, in October 2014 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election, he was defeated from Indapur constituency by Nationalist Congress Party candidate Dattatray Vithoba Bharne by margin of 14,173 votes. He is the nephew of Shankarrao Bajirao Patil, the former MP.

Although a parliamentary democracy, Indian politics has increasingly become dynastic, possibly due to the absence of a party organization, independent civil society associations that mobilize support for the party, and centralized financing of elections. Family members have also led the Congress party for most of the period since 1978 when Indira Gandhi floated the then Congress(I) faction of the party. It also is fairly common in many political parties in Maharashtra. The dynastic phenomenon is seen from national level down to district level and even village level.The three-tier structure of Panchayati Raj established in the 1960s also helped to create and consolidate the dynastic phenomenon in rural areas. Apart from government, political families also control cooperative institutions, mainly cooperative sugar factories, district cooperative banks in the state, and since the 1980s private for profit colleges. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party also features several senior leaders who are dynasts. In Maharashtra, the NCP has particularly high level of dynasticism.
Vishnu Savara was a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His parents belonged to a family of farmers residing in the village of Galtare in Wada, a tehsil in Palghar district. Savara, a cabinet minister for tribal development in the government of Maharashtra, was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Wada constituency in 1990, 1995, 1999, and 2004. In 2009, after delimitation, he won the Bhiwandi Rural Vidhan Sabha election. In the 2014 assembly election, Savara won the Vikramgad Vidhan Sabha seat.
