Harun-or-Rashid (born 27 October 1954) is a Bangladeshi academic. He is a former vice-chancellor of Bangladesh National University. [1]

Education

Born in Barishal District, Rashid obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Dhaka. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of London in 1983. He was engaged in post-doctoral research at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in University of London during 1992–93 under Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. [2]

Career

In 1979, Rashid started his career as a lecturer in political science at the University of Chittagong. He became an assistant professor in 1984. He returned to the University of Dhaka as assistant professor in 1985. He went on to become associate professor and professor of political science in 1990 and 1995 respectively. [2]

At the University of Dhaka, Rashid served as the pro-vice-chancellor during 2009–2012 and the provost of A.F. Rahman Hall during 1997–2001. [2]

Rashid joined the Bangladesh National University as the vice-chancellor on 6 March 2013. [2]

Sufia Khatun ; was a Bangladeshi author and social activist. She won the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021.

Faruk Mahmud is a Bangladeshi poet and journalist, he won Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2022. He post graduated from Dhaka University.

AK Azad Khan is a physician and a social worker from Bangladesh. In 2018, he was awarded the Independence Award for his contributions in social-welfare. He was appointed National Professor by the government of Bangladesh in 2021. On 1958, AK Azad Khan passed with highest marks in matriculation from Saint Alfred's High School in Padrishibpur. Later in 1960, he passed intermediate from Dhaka College and complete his medical degrees from Dhaka Medical College. AK Azad Khan's wife is the physician professor Kishowar Azad. Khan's father-in-law is the national professor and founder of BIRDEM, Muhammad Ibrahim. Khan has two sons Faruq Azam Khan and Foyez Aseef Khan.

Rafique Ullah Khan is a Bangladeshi academic and the first vice-chancellor of Sheikh Hasina University. He is a professor of Bangla at the University of Dhaka.

Sumankumar Dash is a Bangladeshi journalist and essayist of folklore. He won the 2023 Bangla Academy Literary Award for folklore. He is the Sylhet correspondent of Prothom Alo.

Eshak Khan is a Bangladeshi writer and activist best known for his freedom fighting theme especially for the Bangladesh Liberation War. In 2023, He was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award for Biography.

Afroza Parvin is a Bangladeshi journalist and writer whose work includes fiction, non-fiction, drama and editing. She was the recipient of the 2023 Bangla Academy Literary Award for research on Bangladesh Liberation War.

Toponkar Chakrobarti is a Bangladeshi children's writer, rhymester and journalist. He won the Bangla Academy Literary Award (2023) for children's literature.

Makid Haider was a Bangladeshi writer, poet and recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award.
