Alhaji Hassan Lemu, OON, was the private secretary of late Ahmadu Bello, [1] Sardauna of Sokoto, the Premier of Northern Nigeria. [2]

Early life and education

Born 1920–21, at Lemu of Gbako, He started at Lemu Elementary School 1939–41, then Niger Middle School, Bida 1942–44, now as Government college, Bida, he later went to Kaduna College 1945–48.

Northern Nigeria clerk

Sir Ahmad appointed him as the third class clerk in Northern Nigeria Secretariat 1949, he also was instructor at Clerical Training College, Zaria, now Institute of Administration ABU, Zaria, Then he was assistant district officer, provincial secretary, permanent secretary, and acting secretary of military government in Kano and North Western Nigeria. At early his 30s, he was acting permanent secretary, Ministry of Justice. After that he rose to the permanent secretary 1974. [3]

In the 1967 creation of states. Niger State, was created in 1976, Lemu later became the chairman and chief executive officer of Niger State Water Board, up to1979. The same year, he also rose the state commissioner for works and housing. He played the following roles in subsequent years as member Code of Conduct Bureau, And chairman, Kaduna Polytechnic Governing Council, member, Arewa House Project, member, Niger State Local Government Elections Tribunal 1997, member, Bida Emirate, Zonal Zakkat Committee. He was awarded Niger State Merit Award 1997 by the Niger State government. His career spanned work in Nigeria and United Kingdom, where he worked in the Office of the Commissioner of Nigeria and Office of the Commissioner for Northern Nigeria, first in 1954 and of 1957. And was appointed honorary peace ambassador, of Niger State, in National Peace Forum, in 2003 and till his death [4]

Lemu was the protocol officer and the principal private secretary of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sardaunan Sokoto. [5] [6]

He died in Minna, [7] at the age of 95, 2017 and survived four wives, 25 children, 70 grandchildren 100 great-grandchildren. [8] [9]

Barewa College is a college in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria. Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford, it was originally known as Katsina College. It switched its name to Kaduna College in 1938 and to Government College, Zaria in 1949 before settling on Barewa College. It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most-celebrated post-primary schools there up to the early 1960s. The school is known for the large number of elites from the region who attended and counts among its alumni include Tafawa Balewa who was Prime Minister of Nigeria from 1960 to 1966, four heads of state of Nigeria. The school is located along Gaskiya road in the Tukur -Tukur area of Zaria.

Mahmud Kanti Bello was Nigerian senator who represented Katsina North Senatorial District of Katsina State, on the platform of People's Democratic Party and was the Senate majority whip. He became senator in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007. He represented Daura Senatorial Zone between 2003 and 2007 and for the second time after reelection, from 2007 to 2011. He was the pioneer Managing Director of Katsina Steel Rolling Mill.

Ahmadu Adah Ali is a retired Nigerian military officer, a physician and a politician. He was born in Idah, Igala Kingdom. Ali served as the Deputy Director of Army Medical Services and Chief Consulting Physician of the Military Hospital, Kaduna. In 1973, he became the first Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, a position he held until 1975 when he was appointed Minister of Education. Abdu Gusau, Garkuwan Sokoto, MBE, OON (1918–1994), was a Nigerian civil engineer, and statesman who served as the Garkuwa of Sokoto until his death in 1994. He was the Chief estate engineer for Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1967 to 1972 where he was in charge of estates, which included buildings, the campus road network and the water supply. Gusau also served as a principal engineer with Taylor Woodrow of London where he worked on building London Heathrow's airport terminal.

Ahmed Lemu, OON, OFR, was a Nigerian Islamic scholar, educationist and jurist, who was the first grand khadi and chief justice of Niger State. He was the founder of Islamic Educational Trust (IET) together with his wife Aisha Lemu and a friend Ashafa Sani Suleiman. He was a member of the Vision 2010 Committee constituted by Sani Abacha, and in 2011 he was appointed as the Chairman of Presidential Committee on Post Election Violence by Goodluck Jonathan to probe the violence which followed the announcement of the 2011 presidential Election results in Northern Nigeria. He died at the age of 91.
