Moniruzzaman (known by his pen-name Hayat Mamud; [1] born 2 July 1939) is a Bangladeshi essayist-poet. [1] He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the government of Bangladesh. [2]

Early life and family

Mamud was born on 2 July 1939 to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Maura in the Hooghly district of the Bengal Province. He migrated with his parents, Muhammad Shamsher Ali and Aminah Khatun, to Dacca in East Bengal as a result of the 1950 anti-Muslim riots in West Bengal.[ citation needed ]

Education

Mamud completed his bachelor's and master's degree in Bengali literature from University of Dhaka. He earned his Ph.D. degree on contemporary literature from Jadavpur University.[ citation needed ]

Career

Mamud served as a faculty member of Jahangirnagar University. [1]

Obaidul Huq was a Bangladeshi journalist, cinematographer, playwright and writer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1981 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Rafiqul Islam was a Bangladeshi educationist, scholar, writer, linguist and cultural activist. He was the president of Bangla Academy since May 2021 until his death. He was inducted as a National Professor by the Government of Bangladesh in July 2018. He was a vice-chancellor (2007–2011), professor emeritus and adviser to the Centre for Bangla Studies of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). He served as the chairman of the Nazrul Institute Trustee Board. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2001 and Independence Day Award in 2012 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Habibullah Sirajee was a Bangladeshi poet. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the government of Bangladesh for his contribution to language and literature. He served as the director general of Bangla Academy from 20 December 2018 until his death. Sirajee also served as the president of Jatiya Kabita Parishad.

Ahmed Rafiq is a Bangladeshi language movement activist, writer and researcher on Rabindranath Tagore and his literature. He achieved Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh. Tagore Research Institute in Kolkata conferred the Rabindratattacharya title on him in 2011.

Ashraf Siddiqui was a Bangladeshi poet, researcher, folklorist, and essayist. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1964 and Ekushey Padak in 1988 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Mahbubul Haque was a Bangladeshi professor, researcher and linguist. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2018 for his contributions in essay and Ekushey Padak in the research category in 2019.

Nuran Nabi is a Bangladeshi scientist and author. In recognition of his contribution in language and literature, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2020. He received honorary 'Fellowship' from Bangla Academy in 2017.
