Heinz Lukas-Kindermann (born 1 June 1939 [1] ) is a German theatre director and intendant. [2] [3]

Life and career

Born in Münster, Lukas-Kindermann is the son of the Austrian theatre scholar Heinz Kindermann  [ de ]. He grew up in Vienna and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He was then assistant director of Gustav Rudolf Sellner at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Afterwards he became chief director of the opera at the Stadttheater Bielefeld and later opera director at the Theater Kiel, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Staatstheater Nürnberg [4] as well as the Theater Dortmund. Lukas-Kindermann also worked at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf and Duisburg, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Volksoper Wien, the Opernhaus Zürich, the Staatstheater Hannover, the Berliner Festspiele, but also at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, the Staatsoper Prague.

From 1995 to 2004, Lukas-Kindermann was director of the Theater Trier, where he co-founded among other things the Antikenfestspiele. He directed a production of Korngold's Das Wunder der Heliane in Brno.

For years a member of the Oper Frankfurt, he was chosen as Singer of the Year in 2011 after creating the leading role in Wolfgang Rihm's Dionysos at the Salzburg Festival. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House as Don Alfonso in Mozart's Così fan tutte, and at the Bayreuth Festival as Beckmesser in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2017.

Ruth Hesse is a German dramatic mezzo-soprano. She was a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1962 to 1995, and appeared internationally, including the Bayreuth Festival and the Salzburg Festival. She appeared regularly at the Vienna State Opera from 1965 to 1988, and was appointed an Austrian Kammersängerin in 1982. In Berlin, she took part in the world premiere of Henze's Der junge Lord.

Claus Guth is a German theatre director, focused on opera. He has directed operas at major houses and festivals, including world premieres such as works of the Munich Biennale, and Berio's Cronaca del luogo at the Salzburg Festival in 1999. Guth is particularly known for his opera productions of the works of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss. He has received two Faust awards, for Daphne by Richard Strauss in 2010, and for Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, both at the Oper Frankfurt.
