The Summer Olympic Games, also known as the Summer Olympics or the Games of the Olympiad, is a major international multi-sport event normally held once every four years. This was the first international multi-sport event of its kind, organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) founded by Pierre de Coubertin. The tradition of awarding medals began in 1904; in each Olympic event, gold medals are awarded for first place, silver medals for second place, and bronze medals for third place. The Winter Olympic Games were created out of the success of the Summer Olympic Games, which are regarded as the largest and most prestigious multi-sport international event in the world.

The men's 200 metres was an event at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. It was held on 31 July and 1 August 1928 at the Olympic Stadium. There were 59 competitors from 29 nations. Nations had been limited to 4 athletes each since 1920. The event was won by 0.1 seconds by Percy Williams of Canada, the nation's second victory in the event. The win broke a streak of three victories by the United States; with no Americans on the podium, the nation's six-Games medal streak was broken as well. Walter Rangeley of Great Britain took silver, giving Great Britain a four-Games medal streak in the event. Germany earned its first men's 200 metres medal with Helmut Körnig's bronze.
Ludwig Siebert was a West German former bobsledder who competed during the 1960s. He won two gold medals in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships. The gold in 1966 was awarded following a crash that killed his fellow athlete Toni Pensperger during the four-man event. Pensperger was posthumously awarded the gold medal while Siebert and his surviving teammates Helmut Werzer and Roland Ebert received their golds as well. Siebert also finished fifth in the four-man event at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.

In the Rio 2016 Olympics, they were joined by Óscar Figueroa in Weightlifting, Caterine Ibargüen in Triple Jump and Mariana Pajón in BMX. She is studying at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and also at the Universidad de Thomas Gomez.

This event often consisted as a running deer target at several speeds and distances, but at these games it was contested as a running boar shot at 50 metres at two speeds. The gold medal went to Yakiv Zheleznyak of the Soviet Union. He broke the world record in event with a score of 569. The silver medal went to Helmut Bellingrodt of Colombia this was the first Olympic medal won by a Colombian athlete.
