The Henley Lawn Tennis Club Tournament [1] was a late Victorian era men's and women's grass court tennis tournament established in October 1880. [2] The tournament was organised by the Henley Lawn Tennis Club and held at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England which ran until at least 1899. [3]

The Henley Lawn Tennis Club Tournament was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament first staged in October 1880. [4] This event ran through until at least 1899. [5] It was organised by the Henley Lawn Tennis Club and usually staged at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England.

Venue

The Henley Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1880. [6] By 1896 the club consisted of four grass courts and a pavilion, and at this time was based at Marlow,Road. [7] Henley Tennis Club is still operating today. [8]

Foxgrove Road, Beckenham is a sports ground in Beckenham in the London Borough of Bromley. The ground is home to Beckenham Cricket Club, a multi-sports club, and has been used as a first-class cricket venue and hosted the Kent Championships, a tennis tournament held annually in the run-up to the Wimbledon Championships. It was also the ground used for the University Hockey Match between Oxford and Cambridge universities. The ground remains in use for cricket and tennis as well as for football, netball and squash and acting as a base for road running.

Patrick Spence was a South African tennis player. He was born in Queenstown, South Africa. He competed mainly in Great Britain and found his form in hard court tournaments. He notably won the mixed doubles championships at Wimbledon in 1928 with Elizabeth Ryan and at the French Open in 1931 with Betty Nuthall. He also competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics.

The 1880 Men's tennis tour was the 4th amateur tennis tour held that year. It now incorporated 41 tournaments staged in Australia, Great Britain and Ireland and the United States. The 1880 Wimbledon Championships was won by John Hartley against Herbert Lawford, in the Challenge Round.
