Henning Albrecht (born 1973) is a German historian.

Life

From 2003 to 2006, Albrecht was a research assistant at Historisches Seminar  [ de ] of the University of Hamburg [1] [2] and was awarded his doctorate there in 2007 with his dissertation Antiliberalismus und Antisemitismus: Hermann Wagener und die preußischen Sozialkonservativen 1855–1873. He is a freelance scientific consultant for the magazine Geo and has published numerous books as a writer since 2008. [3] In 2016, Albrecht published a comprehensive biography of the Hamburg 6, artist Horst Janssen, for which he did five years of research. [4] [5]

Hermann Samuel Reimarus, was a German philosopher and writer of the Enlightenment who is remembered for his Deism, the doctrine that human reason can arrive at a knowledge of God and ethics from a study of nature and our own internal reality, thus eliminating the need for religions based on revelation. He denied the supernatural origin of Christianity, and was the first influential critic to investigate the historical Jesus. According to Reimarus, Jesus was a mortal Jewish prophet, and the apostles founded Christianity as a religion separate from Jesus’ own ministry.

Horst Janssen was a German draftsman, printmaker, poster artist and illustrator. He had a prolific output of drawings, etchings, woodcuts, lithographs and wood engravings.

Gerhard Streminger is an Austrian Philosopher and author, born in Graz in 1952. From 1970, he studied philosophy and mathematics in Graz, Goettingen, Edinburgh with G.E.Davie and Oxford with J. L. Mackie. He gained his PhD in 1978 at the University of Graz, where he held posts from 1975 until 1997. In 1981 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Streminger was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Graz in 1988 and received the title of University Professor in 1995.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hamburg Uprising</span> 1923 communist insurrection in Germany

The Hamburg Uprising was an insurrection during the Weimar Republic in Germany. It was started on 23 October 1923 by one of the most militant sections of the Hamburg district Communist Party (KPD), the KP Wasserkante. Rebels stormed 24 police stations, 17 in Hamburg and seven in Schleswig-Holstein Province in Prussia. From a military point of view, the attempt was futile and over in a day. Without support from the rest of Germany or from the Soviet Union, the communist insurgency disintegrated. Some 100 people died during the uprising. The exact details of the rebellion, as well as the assessment of its impact, remain controversial.

Friedrich Wilhelm Hermann Wagener was a Prussian jurist, chief editor of the Kreuzzeitung and was a politician and minister from the Prussian Conservative Party.

The Biermann-Ratjen-Medaille is an award of the City of Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1978 by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to commemorate the achievements of the previous senator of culture Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen. The award is given to people, groups and institutions who have made outstanding contributions to the culture of Hamburg. The Praeses of the Department of Culture decides on the recipients and awards the medal on behalf of the Senate.

John von Berenberg-Gossler was a Hamburg banker, politician and grand burgher. He was elected Senator in Hamburg in 1908 and served as German Ambassador to Italy 1920–21. He was a member of the Berenberg-Gossler banking dynasty and the son of Baron Johann von Berenberg-Gossler (1839–1913), owner of Berenberg Bank, who was ennobled in Prussia in 1888 and conferred Baronial rank in 1910. His father had destined him to succeed him as head of the bank, and his election as Senator took place against the will of his father. He was forced to sell his share of the bank, and his brother Cornelius Freiherr von Berenberg-Gossler succeeded their father as head of the bank. He was head of the bank Hamburger Bank von 1861 from 1923 to 1925.

Peter Janssens was a German musician and composer who wrote and performed incidental music for several theatres, and songs and musicals of the genre Neues Geistliches Lied, a pioneer of Sacropop. He worked at a German theatre in Buenos Aires, set several works by Ernesto Cardenal to music and composed in 1992 a passion music, in memory of 500 years after the European invasion in Latin America.
